Publisher's Summary

A laird trapped between centuries...

Enchanted by a powerful spell, Highland laird Drustan MacKeltar slumbered for nearly five centuries hidden deep in a cave, until an unlikely savior awakened him. The enticing lass who dressed and spoke like no woman he'd ever known was from his distant future, where crumbled ruins were all that remained of his vanished world.

Drustan knew he had to return to his own century if he was to save his people from a terrible fate. And he needed the bewitching woman by his side.

A woman changed forever in his arms....

Gwen Cassidy had come to Scotland to shake up her humdrum life and, just maybe, meet a man. How could she have known that a tumble down a Highland ravine would send her plunging into an underground cavern - to land atop the most devastatingly seductive man she'd ever seen? Or that once he'd kissed her, he wouldn't let her go?

Bound to Drustan by a passion stronger than time, Gwen is swept back to 16th-century Scotland, where a treacherous enemy plots against them...and where a warrior with the power to change history will defy time itself for the woman he loves.

Great Scot! Don't miss our other titles in the Highlander series.

"Brilliant Brogue... work on the female voices"

Loved the story and the brogue. Please make the female voices sound more empowered and less like whining ninnies. I've ordered the books for the remainder of the series because I couldn't take one more moment of those female voices!

    "One of my favorites"

Phil Gigante is an AWESOME reader. I have always loved his work. I even consider listening to a book he read that I am not interested in because I know he is just THAT good.
The story is a wonderful time travel romance that is one of the beginning of a series that later turns so dark I didn't enjoy it as much but the highlander series by Moning is one of the best ever. I think I have listened to this story about a dozen times, and I am NOT exaggerating. So glad I have this on Audible.
    Whoo HOO!

    "Letter from Sylvan"

I have read this book often and was disappointed that they left out the letter written to Gwen and Drustan about Daegus. I highly recommend reading the book if you haven't just so you can read the letter it's almost an opening to the next book.

    Story
"Good sex, Good hero, INSIPID Heroine"
What about Phil Gigante’s performance did you like?

Great male voices. Nothing was wrong with his female voices - but even he couldn't save how ridiculous, annoying, and non-sensical the heroine was.

    Any additional comments?

I understand suspension of disbelief. This is a time-travel story with druids, etc., which I can accept. However, the 16th century characters were completely unrealistic in their reactions to the modern heroine. For example, the hero, a laird, sees the heroine for the first time (in modern times) and she's wearing short shorts. He, realistically, thinks she's in her underwear. But when she insists her clothes are fine, his next thought is to consider that this virtual stranger might be a possible wife for him. That makes no sense from his point of view. A 16th century laird would think she was insane or a prostitute, not a potential wife. This sort of stuff happens non-stop, so that the 16th century characters seem completely unbelievable and the story, ridiculous.

The heroine's non-sensical behavior, her idiotic thoughts, and her obnoxiousness made me want to stop reading repeatedly. If I heard one more word about her "cherry," I could have barfed, and that was the least of it. The guy was a good character and the sex was good. But I couldn't decide if I wanted him to sleep with her or murder her!

"My First Audiobook - reread of a Favourite Story"

This is my first ever audiobook.. I was worried that I may not get as involved with a story while, as I would if I was reading it. So I decided to test the theory out on one of my ALL time FAVOURITE books. I love this book and have reread it many times... It makes me laugh, tear up (well the first few times I read it) and just long to keep reading. The time travel part is done well, and both leads are great characters. This book while technically book 4 in the series does go with the next (The dark Highlander) as it's about Drustan's Brother. However the rest in the series don't really need to be read in order. I have my favourites of the series (4,5 and 7)

So how does the audio stand up against the written version? Awesomely! Gigante is a fantastic reader for all the male roles. His different accents are great, and it brought a new feeling to the story for me. On the flip side, I found his female lead voice hard to get used to. When her roles were up, I didn't picture Gwen the same, while I read her, I find her more sarcastic and quippy and an under-the-breath kind of mutterer.. which I found didn't get protrayed as well when Gigante read her. To me she came across more flighty or air-headish due to the voice. But honestly though, I got used to his female voice and it isn't something I would count as a reason to not listen to this book again. I am sure I will use this audio copy many more times. I have read everything Karen Marie Moning has written, I am very tempted to repurchase the fever series in audio as well.. I see Gigante and a Ross will read toghether on some of those books. That would probably be awesome!
