Publisher's Summary

Krystina Cole was a girl on a mission. She had big dreams and aspirations, none of which included a man by her side. She knew better than that - at least until she met Alexander Stone, the New York billionaire real estate tycoon. She saw the way that he looked at her, and the dark promises in his eyes. She was curious about his world and all that it entailed. But the shadows of her past haunted her, making her afraid to explore possibilities that she could never before have imagined....

Alexander Stone was a man who knew how to get what he wanted. He understood the value of finesse, and the importance of patience and diligence to achieve the desired result. He was successful and wealthy, relying on his naturally sharp instincts to guide him through life. But a chance run-in with Krystina Cole quickly turned his world upside down. Her quick wit and firecracker attitude was the complete opposite of what he wanted in a woman, and his instincts failed him at every turn....

However, both Krystina and Alexander are clinging to the secrets of their past, and neither of them are willing to compromise. Krystina's hardened heart makes emotional surrender a hard limit. But for Alexander, revealing his past could have devastating results. Visit www.dakotawillink.com.

I love listening to audiobooks! I listen while I'm at work (don't worry it's allowed). I love fantasy and sci-fi, but listen/read everything

    "For fans of 50 Shades"
Where does Heart of Stone: The Stone Series, Volume 1 rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

Very high, loved this book and the performances by the narrators were excellent.

What did you like best about this story?

I loved the story and subject matter. BDSM, particularly Dom/sub relationship, was at the core of the story and portrayed in a positive light.

What does Lacy Laurel and Jeffrey Kafer bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

They both brought emotion to the characters they were reading for, you don't get as much of it when you read as opposed to listen.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

When Krystina and Alex are talking at the end of the book, very emotional.

    Any additional comments?

Great listen and I highly recommend it, but it may not be for everyone. It also ends on a cliffhanger, not fond of that but it doesn't take away from the book. I received a free copy of this audiobook at my request and I have voluntarily left this review.

    "It's a cliffhanger!"

Trust takes time and secrets never stay hidden. Trust is key to BDSM. Secrets do not belong. This book has both secrets, trust, and so much more. I thought it also did a good job explaining the BDSM choice. I enjoyed listening to the book, but didn't like the cliffhanger ending. Regarding the narrators, I thought Jeffrey Kafer did a great job with the male POV and had a dominant voice. Lacy Laurel did a good female POV, but she sounded more mature in my mind for the character of Christina. I've listened to both narrators before and enjoy their performances and think they are top notch. The author was new to me, and I would have liked the book much better if it was a complete story and not a cliffhanger. My review is not a synopsis of the book, but rather my opinion of it. I was voluntarily provided with this review copy audiobook by the author, publisher and/or narrators.

I really enjoyed this story. As it went on I started liking it more and more. Story had you holding your breath and I couldn't stop listening. But hated that it was a cliffhanger:( I didn't realize that till the end.

I received this title for free in exchange for an unbiased review.

What did you love best about Heart of Stone: The Stone Series, Volume 1?

I love the story line of this book. Two people who had to go through different types of dark past come together with amazing sexual chemistry. I can't wait for 2nd book to come to audio. I loved how the pov goes back and forth between the two main characters, it really gave the insight into each character's mind. <br/>The voices are important in an audiobook and I think the narrators did an amazing job.

    Swept Away by Rosemary Willhide

Which character – as performed by Lacy Laurel and Jeffrey Kafer – was your favorite?

Krystina Cole - I love strong female characters

Of coarse comparisons are bound to be made between this story and a few others. Since I never read the "other" obvious story that will come to mind first for most people I came into this story with no expectations. I was pleasantly surprised. Even though the storyline is predictable in many ways it's a very entertaining, engaging and enjoyable story that has a couple little twists that keep it interesting. It pulled me in immediately and held my attention from start to finish.

The story is told through dual POV's between Krystina and Alexander giving you both sides of the story.

It is a story involving BDSM so there is plenty of steamy romance. But nothing too over the top.

Alex is a man who is used to getting what he wants and is in control of every aspect of his life including what he desires in the bedroom and expects full submission from his partners. Krystina a strong independent woman is his newest interest and isn't keen on being anyone's submissive. Slowly Alexander introduces Krystina to his lifestyle. Communication and trust is key in a relationship like this. Due to her past Krystina confuses abuse with submission. They both have secrets they are hiding but when those secrets come out they have an effect on both of them.

It is the first in a series so it does end in a cliffhanger.

Lacy Laurel does a good job with the narration. 3 stars for her narration. She has a pleasant but very distinct voice. She has a habit of emphasizing each word, especially the last syllable at the end of every sentence. It can be very distracting at times. There's a fine line between not enough "character" in the narration (flat) and too much character. With so much emphasis on her words the narration doesn't always flow smoothly. With a little more experience she could be a really good narrator. Jeffrey Kafer did a fantastic job with his parts of the narration as usual. Clearly spoken with a nice even pace. Great character voices. He has a voice that just pulls you into the story and makes it come to life. 5 stars all the way. It would have been even better if Jeffery Kafer had narrated all of Alex's part of the story.

    "Billionaire romance with kink."
What did you like best about Heart of Stone: The Stone Series, Volume 1? What did you like least?

I liked the two narrators giving the different points of view.
I didn't care for the repetitive self talks of why or what they are doing.

What was the most interesting aspect of this story? The least interesting?

I like the story line best and it's interesting learning about BDSM. Least interesting is probably some of the characters. There isn't enough background information to grab my interest.

Which character – as performed by Lacy Laurel and Jeffrey Kafer – was your favorite?

    Chris.

    Any additional comments?

I'm wanting to get the next volume to see how they work things out. I voluntarily reviewed this audiobook after receiving an advanced copy I requested.

    "Great Romance, But..."
Would you listen to Heart of Stone: The Stone Series, Volume 1 again? Why?

No. Never. I honestly hated the female narrator. I bought the book and will certainly read it again. The story is fantastic, and the male narrator nearly makes up for the others' flaws.

What other book might you compare Heart of Stone: The Stone Series, Volume 1 to and why?

The deeply sensual undertones make this easy to compare to something like 50 Shades, but I found this to be much more nuanced.

Would you listen to another book narrated by Lacy Laurel and Jeffrey Kafer ?

Lacy Laurel, no. Jeffrey Kafer, definetly. He'd get 5 starts, her 3, so I split the difference.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

I'm a sucker for a great meet-cute, and I loved this one. It was pretty adorable.

    Any additional comments?

This is a very good book, but Lacy's narration was killing me. It felt very nasal and annoying. It might just be me, so I suggest listening to the sample first. This is my voluntary, honest review of a gifted copy.

This is such a good story, but very emotional and difficult because of all the hangups Alexander and Krystina are living with. It is clear that they had an immediate and strong attraction to each other that could turn into enduring love. However this can never happen unless they come to terms with their pasts. I liked the way the story was narrated very much, it had a powerful effect on me and I really want to listen to the conclusion.
