Rafe Kelly never thought he'd fall in love with Claire Michaels, the hostage negotiator sent to get him out of a life or death situation. Though it was easy to see from the beginning that Claire was good at her profession, Rafe quickly realized she was even better for him personally and that they might have a future together.
When they get back from their mission in Afghanistan, however, Claire goes back to the Hostage Negotiation Team and Rafe is left to deal with the huge hole in his life after leaving the SEALs. Trying to balance an uncertain future with a new relationship is made even more complicated when a family crisis strikes. Will Rafe and Claire be able to turn to each other for strength or are they over before they've really begun?
Takes place directly following All Fall Down Hostage Negotiation Team #1
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
I loved the story and the narration.
What other book might you compare Falling Slowly (Hostage Negotiation Team #1.5) to and why?
The whole Hostage Negotiation series by Julie Bellon is excellent. Falling Slowly is a part of that series. The whole series is fast paced, exciting and has a little romance too.
Which character – as performed by Simon Pringle-Wallace – was your favorite?
Rafe, the main character was my absolute favorite.
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
For me, the moving part of this book was in the many little moments of care and concern Rafe and Claire had for each other.
Any additional comments?
I had read this book previously to listening to it so the story wasn't new to me but hearing it read was a whole new experience. The narrator did a fantastic job. Sometimes with narrators, it takes me awhile to become accustomed to their style and voice but I was immediately at ease with the narrator and loved listening to him.
What did you like best about this story?
I love Claire and Rafe's relationship. They are both independent yet still need each other. They're in the beginning of their relationship where they want to spend every waking moment together and it's a reminder of how wonderful that feels. Their jobs can harden them but they each bring out the tender side of the other one. They also have fun and their competitive natures come out as well.
Which character – as performed by Simon Pringle-Wallace – was your favorite?
I liked Claire better than Rafe. There were times that he comes across as stiff and I like to think he's a bit more loose than that.
Any additional comments?
This is a good follow-up to All Fall Down. I liked getting to know Claire and Rafe better and get more insight into their relationship. It doesn't take long to listen to this audio so I will be listening to it again!
What did you love best about Falling Slowly (Hostage Negotiation Team #1.5)?
I love the story of Clair and Rafe, how they continue to fall in love and recognize their mutual need for one another.
What was one of the most memorable moments of Falling Slowly (Hostage Negotiation Team #1.5)?
I loved their banter about the karaoke bet and still want to hear Rafe singing :)
What about Simon Pringle-Wallace’s performance did you like?
His narrative was strong, and I liked the way he did Rafe's voice and the other male characters.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
Yes, but I had to listen while driving to and from work.
Any additional comments?
My only complaint, if I had one, was that Clair's voice came off as passive which didn't match her character description to me. She's a strong, confident woman and she sounded indifferent. Otherwise the read was fabulous!
