Publisher's Summary

Fans of Patricia Briggs, Eva Truesdale, Jennifer Snyder, and Ailen Erin will fall in love with the Summer Omega series.

Nightmares are doomed to repeat themselves.

Shelby Brooks learned she is a werewolf on the same night she learned that love and betrayal go hand in hand. She was 16. Now, going into her senior year in a new town, love is the last thing Shelby is looking for, but she finds herself irresistibly drawn to Kale, the son of an Alpha.

As her heart slowly reopens to the possibility of happiness, threats mount, and her very presence brings mortal danger to Kale and his entire pack. Is her destiny to be a savior? Or a harbinger of death, as the Summer Omega prophecies foretell? Shelby Brooks must reach deep within and discover what lies there, something she fears to unleash.

A Hit All Around!

I can't wait for more of this story! The romance is natural and the writing is on the high end, something the paranormal genre often lacks! I'm so excited to learn more about Shelby and the Copeland pack. So much mystery and great plotting. The potential for this series is seriously up there. If you like werewolves, romance, a real sense of danger and conflict with intelligent but flawed characters, AWAKENING deserves your attention.

Definitely not twilight

A refreshing take on a paranormal romance. There is great character building, a strong female lead, and an intriguing background story. Awakening is very well written and I was engaged and entertained from start to cliff hanger. Definitely worth reading!

Took a chance. Glad I did

Where does Awakening rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

Best so far this year

Who was your favorite character and why?

Shelby and "Swearing Sadie" by far

Any additional comments?

I took a chance on this book on a whim and happy I did. The characters really came alive, probably because the narrator was awesome, but I don't mean to say the book was written well. Some hilarious parts as well! Story was not very predictable, which is always a plus. The romance: I feel like this was romantic urban fantasy rather than romance with some fantasy elements. That's fine, but if you're looking for steamy hot sexy bedroom scenes, this won't have it. But the romance scenes are really well done. There's more action that you might expect from a book in this genre. YA safe.

Be prepared to lose some sleep!

So... just finished Awakening. Coming of age twilightesk book with a Cooper twist. It was a fun fast listen. Kate Reading crushed it as usual. The character building is super strong and there is a ton of world building to expand on. Swearing Sadie’s character must have been a blast to write. I could see the author writing ‘her’ in my minds eye the whole time. I loved Bubba too, great comic relief! Can’t wait for the next installment!

JK Cooper keep cranking, you’ve found an audience and we can’t wait for more!

STUNNING YA Read

Where does Awakening rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

Top 10 over past 5 years.

What did you like best about this story?

Authentic romance, likable characters. The descriptions--wow. Lots of great details. Scenes were vivid. If you want to feel like you're part of the story, seeing it like a movie, this book gets you there.

What does Kate Reading bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Terrific.

Any additional comments?

This book had its steamy parts (Though YA safe) but the action was a lot more than I expected. The author profile says this is a husband wife writing duo, and I think the male influence brought a lot more of that out. So, instead of just long day dreams about what "his lips might taste like" (you get some of that for sure), I feel like I know stuff about guns now haha. Well balanced with action, fantasy, and romance.

What a ride!

MY TAKE
I listened to the audiobook. Kate Reading is one of my favorite narrators, and she didn't disappoint.

This book is very written. I could see the world around the characters and I was emotionally connected to them. That's hugely important to me in any story, the emotional connection.

The story itself is an interesting mixture of this brewing battle between the wolves and the hunters, all mingled in a typical high school YA story of the new girl getting on the wrong side of the mean girl group. In some ways, it could be called stereotypical or cliche--yet it's reflective of real life. Our attention can be easily pulled from the important stuff with the stupid and petty. Typical teen life for way too many people. The battle part (and the psycho hunter and his rapist son) is brutal. Not as bad a The Hunger Games, but more than I expected.

The overall story is obviously bigger than this single book. Awakening has its arc with a satisfying conclusion. The funny thing is that it ends before the school year starts. There's an epilogue that sets up the story problem for the next book. I don't know how many are planned for the series.

PRETTY MUCH FLAWLESS

Debut release, and the author knocked it out of the park for me. You know certain things are going to happen, but other twists caught me totally off guard. Great romance, great build up, perfect teenage awkward moments.
I laughed so hard at the banter!
I melted in the romance of it.
I jumped at some of the action scenes and probably bit my nails.
Just a fantastic YA PNR book. Hope next book is soon.

Nice twist

This is truly a nice turn into the werewolf wolf. It was a very good combination of romance, action and teenagers.
