Publisher's Summary

Old Path White Clouds presents the life and teachings of Gautama Buddha. Drawn directly from 24 Pali, Sanskrit, and Chinese sources, and retold by Thich Nhat Hanh in his inimitably beautiful style, this book traces the Buddha's life slowly and gently over the course of 80 years, partly through the eyes of Svasti, the buffalo boy, and partly through the eyes of the Buddha himself. Old Path White Clouds is destined to become a classic of religious literature.

Breathtaking accomplishment!

I thoroughly enjoyed listening to the calm gentle voice leading me in the footsteps and consequently the teachings of the Blessed One in the doorman of stories of his compassion, kindness and live for all beings. The explanation of Emptiness of all Dharmas, the notion of no self and other profound teachings on impermanence and the 4 Noble truths were beautifully presented with sharp clarity. A book for anyone from beginner to experienced lady being on the seekers path! Much metta!

Deepened my love for Buddha and his teachings.

The narrator's compassionate, gentle voice adds a whole new dimension of awesomeness to this otherwise profound book. The writing presents the most complex of buddhas teachings in a very engaging and simple manner. It felt like I was walking right next to the Buddha, witnessing every chapter in vivid detail. Would recommend this to new comers to Buddhist thought as well as to seasoned practitioners.

I bow in gratitude to Thich Nhat Hanh for this wonderful contribution.

Wonderful summary of the Buddha's life and teachings

Nice performance by Ballerini. This book gave me a good overall picture of how key Buddhist teachings were formed. It offers a fairly complete view of the Buddha and those around him, both followers and enemies.

Beautiful, but accurate?

I am greatly benefitted from reading this book. I feel I understand the dharma talks and basic aspects of Buddhas life. He seems more real to me. Though I must question the authenticity and historical accuracy in the eyes of other Buddhist traditions. Thich Nhat Hanh presents a human Buddha with a realistic story, taking out the 40 day fast, the Devils arrows, and the carriage ride where Siddhartha sees sickness, old age, and death for the first time; these and other mystical parts have been simplified for a more credible story. Still, the book is like poetry, and helps me understand the love Buddha had for his family. I definitely recommend!

A great story of the Buddhas life

This is by far the greatest story of the Buddhas life that I have ever read. Thich Nhat Hanh has outdone himself here in putting in the essential lessons of the Buddhist faith while telling a compelling story. I found this work engaging, at times it nearly moved me to tears, and the lessons of the faith all tie together. If I were to ever recommend a book on Buddhism this would be it.
