Publisher's Summary

Zen Master Thich Nhat Hanh's key teaching is that through mindfulness, we can learn to live in the present moment and develop a sense of peace.

Accessible to those new to Buddhist teachings as well as more experienced practitioners, Happiness is the only book that collects all practices adapted and developed by Thich Nhat Hanh in his more than 60 years as a Buddhist monk and teacher. With sections on daily practice, relationships, physical practices, mindful eating, and practicing with children, Happiness is a comprehensive guide to living our daily lives with full awareness, whether we are working, eating, parenting, driving, walking, or simply sitting and breathing.

Thich Nhat Hanh says, "Enjoy your practice with a relaxed and gentle attitude, with an open mind and receptive heart.... Joy and happiness are available to you in the here and now."

Worked for me better on audio than ebook

Not a book I’d recommend to many people, and I had a hard time getting into the e-book version because it’s a lot of instructions on how to be mindful when doing pretty much everything: eating, drinking, meditating, arguing with loved ones, working with a community, playing with children, etc. The audio version helped me see the book as a conversation with Nhat Hanh where he tells about an aspect of life, why it’s important to be mindful while doing it, and detailed practice tips on how to be mindful when doing that thing. I especially liked the mindfulness practices for children. Maybe it’s because I’m child-like but they helped me see that the frantic pace of adult life helps no one. Grade: B+

As for Ballerini, his narration was perfect. He is simply the best narrator for Thich Nhat Hanh.

With each step, "I have arrived."

Would you listen to Happiness again? Why?

A simple and practical approach to mindfulness. In "The Miracle of Mindfulness" I found a technique to mindful breathing--here it is expanded to mindful walking, mindful eating, and so on. It is a step toward loving kindness. With each step, "I am home."

What other book might you compare Happiness to and why?

Thich Nhat Hanh, "The Miracle of Mindfulness"

What does Edoardo Ballerini bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Beautiful narration. Great pace.

A little too instructional

I have listened to a few books now by Thich Nhat Hanh. This one was good but felt more instructional where his other book felt more conceptional.
Still good just less thoughtful and more practical.

I loved it!

This book was essential to my life right now, but offers a lot about suffering, meditation, and healing. Everyone should listen to it at least once.

It’s really so simple

As I listen to this book, I kept thinking of people I want to send it, who I knew would benefit from it. This is not fluffy his age. This is practical, timeless wisdom that anyone can use.
