Publisher's summary

Reimagining Blue is a passionate and personal analysis of a misunderstood profession from the vantage point of female Police Chief Kristen Ziman.

Ziman credits her colorful childhood for the temperament that led her to gravitate toward policing, a profession where chaos is all in a day’s work. Many times, she learned life and leadership lessons through the revelation of what not to do.

But nothing could have prepared Kristen for the turmoil that would unfold during her tenure. A mass shooting, a pandemic, and civil unrest that threatened the trusting relationship between her department and her community became her greatest professional challenges.

This deeply moving memoir is a story of resilience and perseverance in policing—and in life. It’s a raw and honest portrayal told by a flawed human about a noble profession suffering an identity crisis. Reimagining Blue is an urgent call to find a way forward, not because the system is broken, but because it can always be better.

Great articulation of the issues facing LE

This book was a great articulation of the past, present and future issues facing the LE profession. Great perspective from the authors personal experiences. I enjoyed the weaving of leadership lessons and personal/professional successes and failures that make the author relatable to those who are in LE. We’ve all faced similar situations- regardless of gender. The author candidly and unapologetically addresses things that need to change without “hating” on our chosen profession. Solution orientated, she shows a way forward without assuming she has all the answers. I will recommend this book to many peers i the profession as well as those who want to understand policing more deeply that aren’t in the field.

Revealing, Interesting, and Right!

She writes what many cops are afraid to say out loud. And my 40 years as a cop says she gets it right. While its obvious she loved her career and profession, she is courageous enough to point out what needs to be changed: within the system and within the mindset of those on the job. I listened to the book on Audible, but I plan to purchase several copies to give to my friends still on the job and a granddaughter who is considering a career in law enforcement. BTW, the author has a beautiful speaking voice and narrates her book well.

Wear the Badge/Share the Badge and SO Much More!

Reimagining Blue is such an informational & inspirational first hand account written by a former “Top Cop!” The only thing that enhances… her writing talent, her real life experiences, her motivational leadership, and her policing philosophy, is the validation her personal reading of this moving and thought-provoking autobiography adds which allows the reader to “ride along!”

So much more than what you think

This book might appear to be all about policing in the United States but it’s so much more than that. Yes it takes a multi-focused lens to how the profession is, was and how it continues to evolve, but it’s also about leadership, being a woman in a male-dominated world and making a difference in life. This is one of the best human stories I’ve ever heard and I’d encourage everyone to read and learn from all the lessons shared

It had to be said!

As a 26 year veteran of the most known police agency in the world (LAPD) I related with every chapter. I saw Kristen speak at a conference and had to purchase this book/audible. After 5 chapters I emailed her and asked her to speak to our women’s groups (LAWPOA). Thank you for sharing your truth, journey, and lessons learned. As a women in LE we constantly encounter tormenters (men and women) and struggle with staying the course and in our own lane. You reminded me of my strength, resiliency, courage, and to never stop believing in myself. Thank you for your service, sharing your wisdom, and saying yes to come to Los Angeles and speak to 900 LAPD women about why we matter too! 💕💙💕💙

A must read for every Cop

I was skeptical at first but within the first two chapters I was sending this book as a recommendation to every female officer and male officer I know. Great book and proof that Americans can actually have objective reasoning. Who knew.
