Publisher's summary

Detective Amos Decker discovers that a mistake he made as a rookie detective may have led to deadly consequences in the latest Memory Man thriller in David Baldacci's number-one New York Times best-selling series.

Amos Decker and his FBI partner Alex Jamison are visiting his hometown of Burlington, Ohio, when he's approached by an unfamiliar man. But he instantly recognizes the man's name: Meryl Hawkins. He's the first person Decker ever arrested for murder back when he was a young detective.

Though a dozen years in prison have left Hawkins unrecognizably aged and terminally ill, one thing hasn't changed: He maintains he never committed the murders. Could it be possible that Decker made a mistake all those years ago? As he starts digging into the old case, Decker finds a startling connection to a new crime that he may be able to prevent, if only he can put the pieces together quickly enough....

Critic reviews

"A star performance by Kyf Brewer and Orlagh Cassidy should push this audiobook to the top of every thriller fan's must list.... Brewer owns Decker's intensity. He gives the character great focus and a steely resolve... Cassidy tackles every female character with precision and care. Her take on Mary Lancaster, Decker's former partner, showcases her abilities with the pregnant pause and perfect pacing. Together they create a presentation second to none and provide supercharged entertainment." (AudioFile Magazine)

Very intriguing!

This was a really interesting book. Kept me guessing until the end. Great narrator and great characters. I have not read any Amos Decker books before but will look for more. My only criticism is that it was kind of far fetched and a bit hard to believe at the end. But I still enjoyed it.

Outstanding book!

Wow this book grabs you from the very beginning and took you on a crazy ride! Something happened every minute! I hated for it to end-it was so good-probably one of the best I have ever read! You want action and twist and turns-a must read!

The "humanizing" of Amos Decker

Detective Amos Decker discovers that a mistake he made as a rookie detective have led to deadly consequences...it was intriguing to see Amos coming in touch with his own humanity. A great summer read.

I'm loving Amos Decker

I love the entire cast of this book. There was some future sadness foretold in this book, and that hurts my heart, but I loved the plot. I love how he weaves the background into the current story. And there are always twists and turns. This is a great series. There are occasional times the narrators sound like they're new at the job, but for the most part, I like them.

Pretty good, average book from Baldacci

The narration was off putting for the first half of the book. Long pauses in-between charectors talking. Like that awkward pause, it was weird. Kyf definitely is no Ron McClarty but what can you do. 4/5

One of Baldacci’s best

I really enjoyed this book. It had a lot of twists and turns and the story was fantastic. It even leaves you hanging a little bit. I’ve read most of Baldacci‘s books and this one is one of my favorites.
