Publisher's summary

IT IS THE EARLY 1980s. Greg Bowker is a young senior constable forcibly transferred to a one-officer station in a remote and dying Mallee town.

Welcomed by a brutal combination of heat, dust, isolation and primitive amenities, the new officer expects to waste years of his career in ‘purgatory’.

He is greeted with warmth by the community but becomes increasingly worried by the behavior of two delinquent teenagers, one of whose family history hides a secret he cannot resist investigating.

A subsequent disappearance and murder set a new challenge for the young officer that leads him down a path into an unspeakable world of darkness and deception.

Purgatory may well reside within the quiet town…

I was transported to another time and place

This is a novel where climate, geographic remoteness and community are as important to the story as the human characters that inhabit it, and the multi-layered mysteries that drive its plot. The book captures life in Australia's Mallee country in the 1980's, and accurately portrays the balancing act facing a policeman in a 'one-copper town'. The murder mystery had me baffled right to the end. A five star read. Eagerly awaiting the next offering from this author.

Waste of a credit!!

This was a really boring, simple book! Really wanted to like it, but it never developed into a good story. Complete waste of time and a Credit!!
