Agreeing to travel home to Maine to hunt down Katch, a K9 dog the system had lost track of, wasn’t an easy decision for Zane. It meant facing his drunk of a father, his cold older brother and, worst of all, Holly, his kid brother’s widow, who used to be his girlfriend. Finding Katch looked to be the easiest part of this dysfunctional homecoming. Only, he wasn’t the only one hunting Katch.

So he stayed away from Montana, where his best friend lived...and his best friend’s sister. Publisher's Summary
Just because helping out is the right thing to do doesn’t make it easy...
Pierce is on the hunt for Salem, a K9 military dog that belonged to Pete, a veteran, who can no longer look after himself or the dog. So, the dog has been handed from owner to owner, until she’s become too much to handle, and now, the law is involved. No one has Salem’s best interests in mind, and they definitely don’t have Pete’s, either. Pierce is about to change all that - whether they like it or not.
Hedi, a young deputy, has lived in Arrowhead, Colorado, all her life and knows Pete and Salem but was helpless to do much when greed overtook his friends and family. She recognizes in Pierce the same qualities that Pete has, and by Pierce’s actions alone, she knows a corner has been turned. She also understands the locals won’t take it lying down, and this means war.
Pierce served his country overseas for many years, and seeing another veteran in trouble makes him realize the fight isn’t over, even after life in the Navy ends. In fact, this battle has just begun. But, this one, Pierce will finish. And he plans to win.

The storyline was so good. It has you on the edge of your seat routing for the good guy the whole time.
This narrator was so robotic and monotone he killed the enjoying of the story. I have read and Listened to every book in 3 other series and enjoyed all of them.

Narrator ruined a good story
I have been reading the books in this series and enjoy the stories. This narrator is horrible speaking in a monotone through the whole book. This is a mystery with action. I couldn’t wait to finish. It was torture. Ruined the book for me which is sad for the author. I have bought hundreds of books and love Audible. This was not good.

great story. lousy narrator
As us Dale's story is wonderful. Unfortunately the narrator is awful. He doing most of the story in a flat monotone that is just painful. The book would be better enjoyed by reading it instead y listening to it. I loved Pierce's story in spite of the narrator but I wish it had been a bit longer.

It's TRUE - This IS the worst narration ever heard
I liked the story, and if it had been narrated by ANYONE who had inflection in their voice, it would have been very interesting. But ... it's true! Although the pitch of the narrator's voice is pleasantly masculine, I'm thinking this might have been an experiment with a robot??? (Although Alexa and Siri sound more human ;-). The monotone was incredibly distracting. The author might want to think about pulling this presentation, and try a do-over. Ryan may be the nicest guy ever, but "voice acting" is not his calling.

Great story I thoroughly enjoyed it I purchased as an audible book but the narrator was dreadful no expression in reading just a boring read through, the narrator in the others books by this author were 100% better will always check who narrator is before purchasing audio again. Dale you need to make sure you don’t use that person again as your books are great but if the narrator sounds as if they don’t care about story it detracts from the whole experience.
