Publisher's Summary

When the seventh child of the Peace family, named Perfect, turns eight, her mother, Emma Jean, tells her bewildered daughter, "You was born a boy. I made you a girl. But that ain't what you was supposed to be. So from now on, you gon' be a boy. It'll be a little strange at first, but you'll get used to it, and this'll be over after while."

From this point forward, his life becomes a bizarre kaleidoscope of events. Meanwhile, the Peace family is forced to question everything they thought they knew about gender, sexuality, unconditional love, and fulfillment.

What a great book!

When you listen to as many books as I do, the bar for what a great book keeps creeping higher and higher. For me a great book must have:
A good story that keeps your mind from drifting off and one that progress at a good pace
Well developed believable characters
Writing that engages the senses
Dialogue that is purposeful to the plot
Perhaps most importantly, a profound imprint on the reader that lingers with you after the book has ended.

This book was all those things for me. Great job Daniel Black!

Refreshing!

I have not written a review in a while, Perfect Peace moved me to, this book was entertaining from beginning till the end, I had my coworkers telling me to please turn up the volume so they could hear it, and asking me what happened, what did they miss when they saw me the next day. This book had us laughing, screaming, gasping, clapping our hands, about to lose our jobs!! Lol!! I fell in love with the family. This book will definitely not disappoint!

story line was excellent, the performance was intense and vivid. very strange family, but thru it all they remained loyal to each other, regardless of the situations, great job.

Starts off slow.... But gets much better. Great Book about homosexuality, child hood abuse, and skin complexion.

Ah knows it ain' gon' be easy

But for the love of god, edit this monstrosity! The premise is a little interesting but only in a passing, kind of sickly sadly morbid way. There are some interesting characters. There are even some original thoughts. But gawd, the dialogue is drenched in molasses and repetitive to an extreme, not to mention painful to listen to. The reader got the thick southern black stereotyped accents down, and they're still ringing in my head. I don't know why I made myself listen to the entire train wreck- actually I want those hours back.

Disappointing

Not what I expected at all. I wanted a story about acceptance and perseverance. All I got was judggy ignorance. Don't get me wrong I can see why the characters were written in this manner, but where was the blossom? I kept waiting for the moment of self acceptance and when if finally came it was dull. Very disappointing, very, very disappointing.

Nice story!

I would definitely recommend this book for someone who enjoys the pursuit of finding reasoning behind human behaviour. I rarely say this, but I can see myself listening for a 2nd time.

I can't believe I listened to the whole thing.

Depressing story that I did not connect with. I read the story summary and reviews and do not feel the book was well represented. If you want to feel worse about humanity, listen to this book and be offended on how the poor farming people are portrayed.

Almost Perfect

Storytelling at it's finest. Deep, rich characters that come more alive with each paragraph. Brilliantly narrated.
