Publisher's summary

Marketing isn’t everything, according to Brian Kurtz. It’s the only thing.

If you have a vision or a mission in life, why not share it with millions instead of dozens? And while you are sharing it with as many people as possible and creating maximum impact, why not measure everything and make all of your marketing accountable? That’s what this book is all about.

In the world of direct marketing, Brian Kurtz has seen it all and done it all over almost four decades. And he lives by the philosophy, “Those who did it have a responsibility to teach it.” Here’s a small sample of what you’ll learn:

  • The four pillars of being extraordinary
  • The five principles of why “Original Source” matters
  • The seven characteristics that are present in every world class copywriter
  • Multiple ways to track the metrics that matter in every campaign and every medium, online and offline
  • Why customer service and fulfillment are marketing functions
  • That the most important capital you own has nothing to do with money
  • And much more

Whether you’re new to marketing or a seasoned pro, this book gives you a crystal-clear road map to grow your business, make more money, maximize your impact in your market, and love what you’re doing while you’re doing it. Kurtz takes you inside the craft to help you use all the tools at your disposal - from the intricate relationship between lists, offers, and copy, to continuity and creating lifetime value, to the critical importance of multichannel marketing and more - so you can succeed wildly, exceed all your expectations, and overdeliver every time.

True Marketers Will Love It...

While, I wasn’t a big fan of some the stories and at some puts I was a lost.

The insight you gain from having someone who worked work some of the copywriters and was on the cutting-edge when Boardroom Inc was a force of its own.

Not going to lie, Jay sold me on this book and for what’s ever reason after listening to his forward I just thought it was about to be the best thing since slice bread.

But...

I had to come back down to reality, while I think it’s worth every penny and then some I think Jay might have over sold it for me.

Maybe not...

I honestly, don’t know yet. This is one of those books you have to listen to ever year because it has to lot to offer but it’s not really an easy listen.

All In all of you consider yourself a serious marketer then this book is a must.

0verdeliver definitely OVERDELIVERS!

I am relatively new to really learning about direct marketing and I am so happy I discovered Brian Kurtz, a living legend in the direct marketing world. I highly recommend this title! Thank you Brian for not holding anything back... In a nutshell what I got from this book was; Understand and Know your Numbers and your Customer and then Love and Serve your customer better than anyone else can!

A mix of story and value

In this day and age of clicking a few buttons to kick off an ad campaign, it is more important than ever to focus on the fundamentals. High tech does not mean high quality. Brian roams through the last many decades to serve up all the best core list developing principles, and it was a good story about interacting and learning from the best of the best over the years.

Sadly Brian did not listen to his own advice to ‘go narrow, go deep’. Although woven with interesting people and facts, most chapters felt like overviews, a ‘mile wide and inch deep’. I would love to see him develop entire books on each core concept, which is more valuable today than ever. Until then, the real value of the book is the valuable resource of the companion website with all its resources, recommending reading and new content.

As for the narration, I have heard Brian in many interviews and podcasts and he is an upbeat vibrant guy… the reading is very staid, he must have been advised to tone it down. It doesn’t really detract from the message but is noticeable to ‘fans’.

Man this is the most boring book I heard

This author has no story, he reference people from early era. There is nothing wrong with that but the way this book is written is just not very engaging. I heard some good books where you can relate with the author. Not this one for sure

Overdeliver? And Much More!

Did Brian Kurtz overdeliver in this book? Well, for me he went above and beyond what I could have expected. I read this book prior to having heard it, and hearing his voice brought home the important message any aspiring direct response marketer should etch in his or her heart, “overdeliver, always.”

Kurtz Stays True to His Title

Overdeliver dispenses pragmatic marketing wisdom based on practical real-life experiences. Although the principles are derived from direct-mail campaigns, they deliver big results when applied to online contact with customers.
