The heroes of old have come back—not to conquer, but to fight for the future of mankind.

When humanity is warned of seven magical trials that will decide its survival—or extinction—the world braces for the worst. But modern man won’t face the coming storms alone.

From beneath Glastonbury Tor, Arthur Pendragon rises.

Francis Drake answers his ancient oath to defend his homeland.

In Ulaanbaatar, Genghis Khan rides once more.

And they are only the beginning.

With reality unraveling and new forces of chaos on the move, even legends may not be enough. Humanity must rally, or fall forever.

From the best-selling author of Apocalypse Redux and Museum Core comes a brand new system apocalypse LitRPG series.

A simple concept taken really far and really well. Basically, what happens if a litRPG apocalypse happens and all the people who said they would come back, Arthur and Francis Drake and so on, did.

Performance: Most of the voice acting has mild to strong accents, with a German accent being the most common. I found the voice acting clear and easy to understand.

Story: The system apocalypse is happening and the ancient heroes (or villains) who promised to return in the most dire hour are returning. Told from many POV the main character takes a supporting class then immediately starts trying to find combat uses. Still wildly outclasses by the likes of Arthur Pendragon, Sir Francis Drake and Genghis Khan he helps while also allowing the story to be something more then endless 'monster of the moment' fights. The story mainly takes place in Europe.

Vibes: Humans, Fuck Ya! but so far no aliens, just magic monsters. Some the enemy of my enemy is my friend with overtones that the situation may be temporary. The LiteRPG elements are light. Mostly skills with a description that can be bent but not broken. No attributes, no numbers (other than level). Guns / tech weapons aren't useless but they are less effective then physics would suggest. There are implications that magitech weapons are possible but none are present in this book.

I don't even know where to start with this book and I mean that in the best way possible. Outrage of the Ancients is my first introduction to Jakob H. Greif and I am already looking forward to checking out his other series. I love the leatherette style cover with the gold accents, very clean and professional. For audio lovers this book is narrated by the excellent Johnathan McClain and I really enjoyed listening to him cycle through multiple accents. Just these alone are probably worth the credit but lets get to the story.

Set in modern day, the "System" has descended upon the world unlocking gamelit staple class system flood the world with magic and baddies. Unfortunately, our MC Tristan is not really equipped for a life of adventure but luckily for him his sister Mia is a bit more adept at combat and they manage to survive the first few minutes of the end of the world. The good news? The hero's of old have awakened from their slumber and are here to kick some major monster ass, Tristan and his sister just so happened to be near one.

The rest of the story follows our MC as he helps his charge Dietrich von Bern navigate this new world while trying to survive the waves of chaos the System throws at them. The story goes through multiple PoV changes as we hop into the bodies of various heroes, thankfully this is handled really well (both by the author and narrator) so this enhances the experience instead of being a distraction.

All in all a really good first entry and it has me excited to hear more. I already queued up his Apocalypse Redux series and added the next book in the series to my wishlist. Highly recommend.

I did get this book for free and many of you will find this review a little suspect but please try to forget that fact and take this review seriously.

Anyhow this book started slow, however getting a nice history lesson that made me want to keep learning is a great piece of literature that’s worth a listen too. Getting to know all of these great people of history and how they impact history itself was great to listen to. Now the modern twist was even more great because it’s was hilarious seeing how each historical figure said the same thing that when there found out about the internet and cell phones and how much it would have help them and appreciating our modern technology. Then the whole apocalypse and everyone getting class and levels was even more enjoyable. The reactions alone will be worth the read and or credit. You will look forward to the next book just like I am.

Great book!

At first, I wasn’t too sure what to think of the book with all the ancients introduction but as soon as the story started for real, I was hooked I like the personalities of the ancients, especially King Arthur, who is acting like an emo kid lol

I am a fan
