Publisher's Summary

Johnny Harris is home again, his too-tight jeans and damn-your-eyes belligerence honed to perfection by a ten-year stretch in federal prison for murder. Now he’s out on parole and ready for the job Rachel Grant has promised him to help him begin a new life. Unlike the rest of the town, Rachel has always believed in her former student’s innocence. But one thing has changed.

The sullenly handsome boy she remembers is still sullen, still handsome - but no longer a boy. And now the small Kentucky town is alive with gossip and whispers of a scandal, as friendship turns to passion and Rachel abandons a lifetime of propriety in the ex-con’s arms. Then the killer strikes again. All evidence points to Johnny Harris, but Rachel knows he is innocent. And she knows she is next - as a shattering truth is uncovered and dark passions explode in the relentless summer heat.

A Classic Robards! A must buy

What made the experience of listening to One Summer the most enjoyable?

if you are a classic Robards reader, you can not miss this one. I have waited 15 yrs for this one and get a bonus as Anna Fields AKA Kate Fleming reads this one. Oh what a find.

What did you like best about this story?

this is pure core romance

Have you listened to any of Kate Fleming’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

this is read by the late great AKA, Anna Fields, who read the best Susan Elizabeth Phillips books ie: It had to be You.

Any additional comments?

I have purchased so many books by the late great ms Fields, what a waste she has passed. Enjoy this classic

One of Robards's best!

This is one of my favorite romantic suspense stories of all time. I have it in print form and have read it time and time again over the years. I thought the narration was excellent, and the narrator really captured the spirit of one of the best male characters of all time: Johnny Harris.

Still a great read and even better listen

Would you listen to One Summer again? Why?

Yes, without hesitation! I loved this book when it just came out in print. I was a little reluctant to buy the audio because I was afraid it would disappoint. It did not! Kate Fleming is a great reader and made the characters come to live.

What was one of the most memorable moments of One Summer?

Not one specific moment. More the theme, which is of faith and total trust. Rachel's belief in Johnny's innocence is touching.

Have you listened to any of Kate Fleming’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

No, I have not but plant to looks for other books where she is the reader.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

When I first read it, yes. Some tears were shed. Although poignant, I think the way Ms. Fleming read the book had an even keel tone.

Any additional comments?

Love this book. Well worth the credit!!!

Couldn't put it down!

This story about Johnny and Rachel has everything. Anticipation, romance, passion, mystery, intrigue, and suspense all wrapped into one book. I really enjoyed this audiobook! Would recommend to any grown woman looking for a good story.

Bad guy gone good! (Good read)

I am a sucker for the underdog. This book gives the underdog a shot whike adding a little mystery to the mayhem. I really enjoyed it. The narrator did a great job with all of the voices. Her read made it even better.

Well-written but Predictable

I like the writing style of this author and her stories are pretty engaging. This one was too predictable but otherwise was ok.

Loved the romance, not the mystery

I think I'm a very tough critic when it comes to the romantic suspense genre. I really feel that the romance compromises the mystery or the mystery compromises the romance. In this book it’s the former; I loved the romance but didn't care for the mystery at all. I could look past the out-datedness of the story (it had an obvious 80's feel) but I felt that the mystery was "cheesy." Anna Fields/Kate Fleming is a quality narrator, but I expected much more from this story.

Best book I’ve read in 5 years

First of all let me get this off my chest. This book is a ROMANCE SUSPENSE!!!!!! If you think the sex (as sarah a reviewer called smut) is so disgusting then why listen or read a ROMANCE suspense????? My God the sex is awesome. It brings humanity to the book. If you(sarah and others like her) don’t want sex in their story then don’t choose ROMANCE SUSPENSE!!!! this book is so good and the narrator is the best I’ve heard in a long time. I think this book deserves a 10 star. It’s one of the best romance books I’ve ever heard. The love that Johnny had carried for so long for Rachel is so beautiful. After everything that poor boy has been through i just want to hug, hold and love his sweet soul. I recommend this book highly. Please don’t let the ignorant or prudes draw you away from it. You’ll be hooked from first page to last. I’m so tired of negativity towards books that are well written. Ok now im off my soap box. I’d scream it if I could.
