Creepy

I’m a sucker for a serial killer thriller! This book kept you guessing and your toes. It was slow-paced but in a good way that built suspense and tension allowing you to truly feel the emotions of the characters and their experiences. Very mysterious and a bit creepy but, that’s to be expected. The author’s note was great in giving insight into the narrative and why she decided to write this book. I was able to get through this in one day because it keeps you wanting to read from the very start.

Such a good book! I couldn’t quit listening. The voice actors were also great! Can’t recommend enough, especially if you are a true crime junkie.

Full Circle

I enjoyed Daphne’s first book! I have been a long time listener of several of her podcasts including Nightwatch and Going West! It was awesome full circle moments when “Elder’s coffee” made an appearance as well as the last quote- “don’t be a stranger.” The book felt like Daphne was on the podcast telling a true story. Just when you think you know who the killer is, your mind shifts and it’s just not who you expected! Great job Daphne!

Not As Scary As Expected!

Based on all the book discussions and reviews from Goodreads and podcasts galore, I really thought the story would be terrifying and cause me to be looking over my shoulder while trying to enjoy the audiobook… A book that would bring on nightmares and make you check that every single door is locked. The story was narrated well and did keep me intrigued, but I honestly can not say it was anything special and worth all the hype. It’s certainly not a psychological thriller nor does it provide enough suspense.

Make sure your doors are locked before you go to bed

I loved how vividly the author paints each scene. So much so that the line between fiction and reality constantly feels blurred. There’s a lingering tension throughout, like someone’s watching you or hiding just out of sight in the next room. As someone from Oregon, I was blown away by how accurately the feel of the Pacific Northwest is captured. It made the story feel deeply personal, almost like it was pulled from fragments of my own childhood memories.

The story unfolds with a realism that never breaks immersion. There wasn’t a single moment where I found myself questioning the plausibility of the events. Everything just fit. The narrators were fantastic, engaging, nuanced, and spot-on from start to finish. A top-to-bottom enjoyable listen that left me both unsettled and wanting more
