Critic Reviews

“Laurell K. Hamilton’s sexiest book, and that’s saying something.... The relationships between the characters take center stage.” (St. Louis Post-Dispatch)

“The definitive book in the series...Laurel K. Hamilton has written the best book of her career because she gives the audience the answers they have been waiting for. This action-supernatural thriller is a keeper and with the passage of time will be considered a classic.” (BookBrowser)

“In [this novel] tough, sarcastic Anita Blake...torn between her inner vamp and wolf makes a final mating choice that no fan will expect.... Better pounce!” (Kirkus Reviews)

Remembered why I quit reading these books

The whole series starts out with great stories but becomes basically adult porn by this book. I really love the stories but now it's all sex all the time. I don't want to listen to 12 hours of sex, one or 2 hours of story. So this again is where I drop Anita Blake, Vampire Hunter. ( But it should be titled Anita Blake Vampire Fucker with some hunting mixed a little in.)

Series arc starts with a BANG

I consider Narcissus in Chains to be the start of the next series arc, where Anita has accepted her connections with the guys. She is constantly learning to accept that she is who she is, no matter how she continues to grow and change. And she’s going to protect what she has - her guys, local humans, and local shifters.
Anita has been avoiding both Jean-Claude and Richard for most of a year and knows it’s time to go home, and to reconcile with them. No one expects Anita to start collecting powers like a Master Vampire when their marks are married again. Amazing action and powers and opposition in this one.
Love Kimberly Alexis handling narration. Many, many thanks to whoever was proactive in getting this recording rereleased. We’ve waited a very long time for it.

Great book

Love the book. Liked the Narrator since Guilty Pleasures, though I liked how there used to be some sound effects that added to the suspense; I miss that.

good but...

first in the series to really dive into the sexy-sexy time. Great story in a lot of ways, but I wish they hadn't played into the DID/multiple personality bad guy trope.

really.

I struggled to finish half of the book. The narrator is horrible. The male voices sound like little boys and with the content makes it creepy. so, nope not again.

I love how in every book we learn along with the Anita about this world of supernatural beings. other books usually spend chapters explaining everything. all Anita Blake book explain only what will be relevant in the book that your currently reading hut you can also use that info in future books
