For Sabre Orin Brown, life is good; she has it all...or would have, if only she could solve the mysterious disappearance of her brother. The search for her brother and her career as a juvenile-court attorney collide when she defends a nine-year-old whose father will go to any length to obtain custody.

Sabre finds herself immersed in a case with too many unanswered questions. Her quest for the truth takes her coast to coast and five years into the past. Confronted with mysterious clues and strange occurrences, Sabre is threatened by someone wanting to make her suffer the unbearable anguish of losing everything - including her life.

As Sabre's passion to find the answers intensifies, she discovers a twisted history of desperation, deceit, and revenge. And she discovers how obscure and treacherous the truth can be.

The Advocate, a legal-suspense murder mystery, is the first book in The Advocate Series. Three characters continue throughout the series, Sabre Orin Brown, defense attorney; her investigator, J.P. Torn; and her colleague Bob Clark. The Advocate is followed by The Advocate's Betrayal

, The Advocate's Conviction, The Advocate's Dilemma, and The Advocate's Ex Parte.

This was an okay story but I did not like the narrator at all. She has a pleasant enough voice but often spoke too quickly.

Need a better narrator!

Listened to this on audible, was an entertaining who did it type of book. I liked the background explanations woven in and explained by the end. Main character a lawyer in family court.

Great story.

This book was not for this reader. Sounded like a high school student reading an essay, could hear each breath between sentences as well as the page turning, felt like I was sitting in a classroom!

Story good, reader not so much

Would you listen to The Advocate again? Why?

I would listen again if I ran out of something new to read.

What did you like best about this story?

Foster children are close to my heart, having been a foster mom myself. I simply love mysteries and action, so this book fulfilled all my desires in a good book.

What about Summer Rona’s performance did you like?

I liked the inflections in her voice, but especially liked that she didn't try to change her voice drastically for each character. That can get pretty ridiculous.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

Murder, mayhem, and the children.

Lotta Power in a Little Lady

The story was interesting enough for me to make it to the end, but it was most difficult listening to the narrator. You could hear every breath she took, every swallow, and every licking of the lips. She was unable to distinguish between the characters, especially male voices. I enjoyed the idea of the book, but the writing was immature - in my opinion.
