Publisher's Summary

Featuring a conversation with the authors!

In this spectacular father/son collaboration, Stephen King and Owen King tell the highest of high-stakes stories: What might happen if women disappeared from the world of men?

In a future so real and near it might be now, something happens when women go to sleep: They become shrouded in a cocoon-like gauze. If they are awakened, if the gauze wrapping their bodies is disturbed or violated, the women become feral and spectacularly violent; and while they sleep they go to another place....

The men of our world are abandoned, left to their increasingly primal devices. One woman, however, the mysterious Evie, is immune to the blessing or curse of the sleeping disease. Is Evie a medical anomaly to be studied? Or is she a demon who must be slain?

Set in a small Appalachian town whose primary employer is a women's prison, Sleeping Beauties is a wildly provocative, gloriously absorbing father/son collaboration between Stephen King and Owen King.

    "Frank"

I'm disappointed in how quickly the character of Frank "gave in". His anger, quickly triggered during the first half of the book, was non-existent when meeting Evie at the jail. That is not at all what I would have expected from a man who beat up a Mercedes over a cat! The scene could have and should have evolved differently in keeping with his established character. Otherwise, enjoyed the book.

"Surprised that two male authors would male bash "

Story could have been better if there was less male bashing, more focus on how the males are effected by the loss of the women, I feel more men would want to protect the females if they were sleeping, because they love them. It reads like women would be way better off without the males. I think lately we get too much talk that males are what makes this world bad. This review is coming from a female.

    "Superbly written & read!"

Loved Sleeping Beauties - and yes ,,, I was one of the “naughty” readers that tried to hear where Steven ended & Owen began -/ impossible - the entire book flowed as if by one author, of course Marin’s reading was captivating and mesmerizing. Wonderfully done by all —-

    "Very good book"

A good reflection of the world today and probably true in some parts. Not a scary book but a good altered reality book.

    "What a piece of garbage"

Stephen King has been my favorite author my entire life. I find it hard to believe he wrote much of this book. I'm about eight hours in and I don't know how much more I can take. It's so boring and the author seems to attempt witty prose every paragraph. Tedious. Junk. The performance isn't very good either. I thought perhaps that was the problem, but no this book has nothing going for it.

The story was very interesting and Marin Ireland was AWESOME!! A bad narrator can really ruin an audiobook.

    "Not bad, but not great"

The narrator was good, the characters for the most part were well developed and interesting

Overall I felt the book was a little preachy. When I read fiction I just want a good story with good characters. If the author wants to drop a few social / political points thats fine but you dont need to channel your inner Ayn Rand and beat people over the head with it

"definitely an interesting premise for a book"

it's a good story and great performance. the book definitely kept my interest. A lot of political undertones but mostly didn't take away from the story. would be a 5 star but the end of the book introduced some unnecessary social justice warrior nonsense.
