Publisher's Summary

A Royal Spyness mystery starring Lady Georgiana, 34th in line for the throne - and the mystery world's favorite penniless heiress.

With its posh clientele in the country for the summer, Georgie's housecleaning business has fizzled. So she tries hiring herself out as a dinner and theatre companion. But her first client has quite the wrong idea.

To avoid further scandal, Georgie's shipped home to Castle Rannoch, where her summer plans include honoring a promise to Her Majesty to keep Castle Rannoch's divorced houseguest from seducing the Prince of Wales. She's also been coerced into helping Scotland Yard with a top-secret mission - namely keeping an eye on the shooting party at Balmoral and preventing someone from shooting the Prince. And Georgie must manage all this without strangling her odious sister-in-law Fig or spineless brother Binky.

What the Critics Say

"Katherine Kellgren is completely winning as guileless, gullible, plucky Georgie. With the castle overrun by visitors - including the notorious American Mrs. Wallis Simpson; her paramour, the Prince of Wales; and an assortment of gentry and staff - Kellgren shifts accents and attitudes with ease. Phryne Fisher fans will love Kellgren’s Lady Georgiana." (AudioFile)

    "Enjoyable story"
Where does Royal Flush rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

I would listen to these again. They are funny and entertaining.

What did you like best about this story?

There is lots of humor. The main character is lovable and fun. The story isn't deep or philosophical, it's just pure entertainment. There is quite a bit of talk about sex but no X rated sex scenes that are so predominant in today's literature. They leave enough to imagination.

    Which scene was your favorite?

I like the scenes where she is learning about cleaning houses.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

34th in line for the throne and poor as a churchmouse.

    Story
"Third book in a series about a minor British royal"

The Royal Spyness series is a fun light hearted mystery series. In the first two books, Georgie, the 34th in line to the throne in 1930s England, has found herself an accidental detective. What makes the series work, is the mix of humor, a dash of romance good character development and some mystery to move the plot along. Georgie’s family is penniless after her father gambled away most of the money and lost the rest in the stock market. Georgie has decided that it is better to try to make her own way rather than live under the rules and obligations of her sister-in-law (and henpecked brother) back in Scotland.

Making her own way in depression era London is not easy. Georgie tried to start a business of opening homes for wealthy homeowners that are coming from their country estates to their London homes, but no one comes to London in the middle of the summer and she has to find another way to make money.

After her friend pawned off a date to her, she decides to try to advertise herself as a dinner partner for visiting businessmen. But her first client assumes she is a prostitute. Her love interest, Darcy O’Mara, happens to save her and Scotland Yard hears of her trouble and sends her out of town to save face. Except things are not as they seem. Someone is trying to kill members of the royal family and the special branch wants Georgie to work as an inside figure to help find out who it is.

This third book is just as enjoyable as the first two. The story line does enough to keep things interesting, although the ending was clear well before the end of the book. The love interest between Darcy and Georgie has enough to keep the tension without being frustrating, but that may not continue much past this book if there isn’t something that is done to shake things up.

The main issue that really will make or break this series is Georgie’s detective style. She is smart, but so far much of what she has found out has been more about where is happens to be and not what she figures out. There is a hint in this book about her really starting to do some detective work on her own. But this will have to be developed in the rest of the series or it will start falling flat. The humor and romance have made the series so far, but to keep going, it there needs to be a new note.

    "Another Fabulous Story!"

Rhys Bowen can do NO wrong! This third installment of A Royal Spyness Mystery was full of action, excitement, and suspense. I love how Rhys sets up several characters to be the culprit through out the story. Its so much more fun to wonder than know right away. Im loving the romance building between Georgie and Darcy and I also loved learning more background on some of Georgie's family. Her grandfather, sister-in-law, and brother are in this book much more, and I enjoyed its setting taking place at Georgie's home vs London this time. This series is such a fun listen and Katherine Kellgren is unbelievable! I cant imagine reading this series and not being able to hear all the characters distinct voices. She really brings this series to an entirely different level than other narrators. It feels like Im watching a movie more than listening. LOVE LOVE LOVE!

    "A Wonderful Series Beautifully Narrated"
What made the experience of listening to Royal Flush the most enjoyable?

The narration and the dry sense of humor of the author.

What did you like best about this story?

The humor and learning about English royalty.

Have you listened to any of Katherine Kellgren’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

This is pretty much par for the course, which I think is quite good. The books are fun and a nice diversion.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

    Royalty moonlights as detective.

    Any additional comments?

I listen to a Royal Spyness Mystery to relax and to laugh. I am always sorry when they end.

This is a great listen. Rhys Bowen writes a hilarious (haggis anyone?) and interesting Royal mystery with a surprising ending.
Katherine Kellgren, again, gives a superb performance.
Highly recommended for a day when you need a pick-me-up.

    "Another great Royal Spyness Mystery."

I would first like to mention Katherine Kellgren's performance which I think is top notch! She absolutely puts me in the place you need to be in to understand the royal "thing". I love the story and the constant humor that finds it's way into every turn of the page so to speak. I often find myself laughing out loud as I listed to these books. Keep them coming!

    "Adore this series"

It is silly and the mysteries are easily solved but who cares. The characters are fabulous, the narration is spot on and the stories are fun. I have listened to the whole series and will definitely listen to all future ones. It is nice break, light and fun.

"so glad to find this series"

Love this series, it is entertaining and light. This narrator is fabulous, the characters come alive. Very few audio books make me laugh out loud, this series has that effect frequently. I love the descriptions of the royals, the fact that these women are trained only how to be a wife, and where to seat aristocrats at dinner parties. There are little digs like that, which add a lot of flavor to the stories. The fact that Georgie is always trying to find some way to support herself when she has no marketable skills. A unique perspective on that time period. And of course the handsome Darcy plot always adds a lot. Definitely start with the first one in this series.

    "A throughly good listen"
Where does Royal Flush rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

This book would be in my top ten, along with the previous two by this author.

What other book might you compare Royal Flush to, and why?

Very similar in style to previous books from this author.

What about Katherine Kellgren’s performance did you like?

Love the different accents she comes up with, very easy to put a face to the accent. She is almost (but not quite) in the same league as Ian Carmichael. Coming from me that is high praise indeed.

Did you have an emotional reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

Several times I had a giggle, especially with the haggis hunting!

    Any additional comments?

This is the third in the series, and is every bit as good as the first two. I actually bought three extra credits so I could buy more. Looking forward to listening to those, by which time my regular credits should be due. I will be spending those on the remaining two books in the series. Then what am I going to do?

Would you listen to Royal Flush again? Why?

I shall leave it a month or two and then listen again. This series is so easy to listen to and is great in the background for trips to see my grandchildren who are about 4 hours away by car.

What did you like best about this story?

It is fiction but with a hint of possible truth in the storyline. Wallis Simpson and the future King and other scandals in royal circles.

Which character – as performed by Katherine Kellgren – was your favourite?

Belinda always stands out as favorite. The way she shouts 'Georgie' when they meet in that posh voice.

If you made a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?

Accidents or planned sabotage against the royals?
