Publisher's Summary

Random House presents the audiobook edition of Persuader by Lee Child, read by Jeff Harding.

Never forgive, never forget. That's Jack Reacher's operating principle. And Quinn was one of the worst guys he ever had the misfortune to meet. He had done unforgivable things. So Reacher was glad to know Quinn was dead. Until the day he saw someone who looked an awful lot like him, alive and well, riding in a limousine outside Boston's Symphony Hall.

Never apologise. Never explain. When Reacher witnesses a brutal attempt to kidnap a terrified young student on a New England campus, he takes the law into his own hands. That's his way, after all. Only this time, it leads to a fatal shooting. Has Reacher - shockingly - lost his sense of right and wrong? Just because this time, it's personal?

A great and a very addictive story

I have read or listened to all the Jack Reacher stories and I put this book all the way at the top. Very tense and a good build up to the final climax. A good story all in all. I especially liked the switch between the story ten years back and present.

One thing though, which in a small way was annoying, was the constantly repeating sentence “I said nothing”. I didn’t count but it must be in the 100. That being mentioned I highly recommend this book. It’s great novel and very good narration! Thanks

narrator's reading cadence ruins whole book

after less than a minute I felt like giving up on the book... the reading sounds as if he's reading a shopping list, ending all sentences as if they're not part of a story. seriously annoying. and sadly I have more books narrated by this person.

He said. She Said.

Does the narrator really need to say "he said","she said" during the dialogue? Extremely annoying in some places.

Jeff Harding really is my favourite narrator. The story was OK. There have been better but still, always enjoyable.

My favourite Reacher ruined

Mr Harding's robotic intonation utterly fails to depict the character of Jack Reacher. If the story was written in the third person he might have got away with it but in the first person you have to convince the listener that it is Reacher narrating. This requires the elements of Reacher's character: calm self assurance, confidence and steel to be evident in the actor's voice. Fans of Reacher may have hated the casting of Tom Cruise in the movie but for all his diminutive stature he was at least able to bring the rest. Sadly, Harding does not.

Reacher Going Over The Top With His Ego

There are many times when our hero presents an image of a man grossly in love with his vanities, his thuggishness, his virility, his guns and delighting in breaking peoples necks. Lee Child has overdeveloped this character to a point where we must question whether Child is producing bloodthirst, soft porn potboilers for the NRA. Reacher must be every feminist's bogeyman.
Reacher has become insufferable and Child isn't as good as he can be with this story. The saving grace is the top narrator Jeff Harding, without his voice acting the story would be very poor indeed.

Narration was disappointing

Narration was very wooden on this one which was disappointing because he's been good on other titles I've listened to. Maybe it's just me but it sounded monotone and rushed

Not my favourite.

Found it quite hard to enjoy the first person approach. Made the narrative seem more stilted. Still a good story though.

Entertaining from start to finish

I’ve just recently started listening to audio books and have thoroughly enjoyed each of the books in the Jack Reacher series. This one was no exception. Great for long distance truck drivers.
