Publisher's Summary

If you made a mistake that took someone's life, you'd remember it...wouldn't you?

After a tragedy rocks the community of Promise Falls, Cal Weaver is asked to investigate the threats being made to the accused's family. He's heard all about it on the news: the young man who drank too much, stole a Porsche and killed a girl, and who claimed afterwards not to remember a single thing. The whole town is outraged that he got off lightly, but for reasons Cal can't explain he accepts the job. Then Cal finds himself caught up in a vicious revenge plot, chasing someone set on delivering retribution. In Cal's experience, it's only ever a matter of time before threats turn into action....

A gripping thriller packed with scandal in a small town, from the master of the twist you never saw coming - international best seller Linwood Barclay. Read by Jeff Harding.

Promise Falls Final

This is fast paced and full of twists and turns. It gets going straight away and has 2 story's connected at the end. There are 2 unanswered questions at the end so I don't think we have seen the last of private eye Cal Weaver and detective Duckworth. Hints maybe they may start up a detective agency. I hope so.

Up there with his best!

This is Linwood Barclay at his best. Paired with the narration of Jess Harding, it's the audio equivalent of drinking fine wine. Both the writing and the voice are perfectly paced. Harding's rich, warm voice brings to life well drawn characters and beautifully written dialogue. The story waxed and wained between two sets of circumstances, then came together in a very satisfying way. So many thrillers are either too convoluted, with too much going on, or simple and cliched. Neither is the case here. This audiobook is one to really get the teeth into, whilst relaxing to the flawless narration provided by Harding. Highly recommended.

Take the long way home - you will want to keep listening

Fantastic 4th promise falls yarn - quite often I find that a couple of books into the series they get predictable however this is the complete opposite - kept the momentum right up to the last minute - seriously keeping fingers crossed for the announcement that there will be a 5th one.
While it would be possible to read this as a stand alone I would recommend reading the other 3 first

Classic Linwood Barclay

A tale of retribution and consequences. Set in Promise Falls and told through the eyes of everyone's favourite comfort eating detective Barry Duckworth and the likeable PI. Cal Weaver. If you've enjoyed Linwood's other books then I'm pretty sure you'll enjoy this. If not it might be worth reading the Promise Falls trilogy first.

"It's 2 in the morning, but just one more chapter'

Would you listen to Parting Shot again? Why?

Definately, a strong storyline, very believable characters and fast paced novel

What did you like best about this story?

When Duckworth found out what his son had tattooed on his arm.

What does Jeff Harding bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you had only read the book?

Wonderful voice, has the right blend of authority, excitement and ability to make so many characters sound like individuals

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

The ending, that really got me, didn't expect it, but thinking about it, it was the only way to finish it.

Any additional comments?

Only the second book I 've listened to, but he has become one of my faviourite authors. Highly recommend this book
