Publisher's Summary

Morse was beset by a nagging feeling. Most of his fanciful notions about the Taylor girl had evaporated, and he had begun to suspect that further investigation into Valerie's disappearance would involve little more than sober and tedious routine....

The statements before Inspector Morse appeared to confirm the bald, simple truth.

After leaving home to return to school, teenager Valerie Taylor had completely vanished, and the trail had gone cold.

Until two years, three months and two days after Valerie's disappearance, somebody decides to supply some surprising new evidence for the case....

I love Insp Morse but the language has become date

Insp Morse and Sgt Lewis are fabulous characters. But there are now moments when the dated language make me cringe.

Not the Morse I thought I knew

Having been a fan of TV Inspector Morses, past and present, I was saddened and disappointed by this lewd, crass, racist bully. Horrible man! Whilst the plot was complex and intriguing enough to keep me listening, it was quite confusing and most of the characters were neither believable nor likeable. Written in 70’s for a male audience I guess. Recording/performance were fine.

Twisty Turny Tale

This Morse definitely keeps the reader guessing. Lots of threads ; neatly woven. Morse, a balding smoker who is losing teeth is nevertheless irresistible to young women (as per) that aside - a good tale.

Disappointing

Having thoroughly enjoyed Morse on TV, I was disa0ppointed with this book. The plot was too fuzzy and did not resolve.
