Quite a page turner!

Just finished I know My Name and I have to say I thoroughly enjoyed it.

A woman vanishes from her home, taking no keys, cards, nothing. Leaving two children behind. She is a loving wife and mother, so why would she walk out? Was she taken? The story then goes to a remote private island near Crete, where a young woman is rescued by a writing group on retreat. She's lost her memory. They care for her and arrange for the local boatman to come get her off the island when she has recovered. Somehow things don't turn out to be what they seem.

The police interview the husband, among others. If he is as happily married as he says, why the affair. Now, you might think you have this book sorted out. Boy, would you be wrong!

such an enjoyable book

This is a great book, but it's taken me a few weeks to know why.

Without spoiling, it's an intriguing story with three distinct sections: mystery, abuse, joy. Each of these parts is a good listen, and I was competently drawn equally into areas which relate to my life and which taught me about those where I have no personal experience.

Comparing to other books in the genre, this book stands out because of the characters. I felt a genuine empathy for ALL the characters, both because of the writing and the excellent narration. I truly liked them all (except one). I felt they were friends, and that I was making decisions along with them.

In short, it's extremely well written and narrated.

I'd recommend this to anyone who likes stories and how normal people respond to an unusual situation, and to explore real lives unlikely to have been experienced by the average audible listener.

Really surprising!

The ending was a complete surprise!!! A bit slow to start, but then I was hooked. Engaging story, "cliff hanger" literally and figuratively. I really enjoyed this one! Very clever twists of all kinds!

Heart Renching

A very well told story of an abused child without graphics (which would have it unreadable for me). It was told so well of a child through to adulthood with her own children, her mind then can't cope as she realises her 4 year old son is the age when she was first abused. I never read this type of storyline but would definitely recommend.

Disappointing

I struggled to gel with this Book, it felt very wooden in places and repetitive. I persevered to the end but was pretty relieved when it was finished.

Flawed storyline

The premise of the book really interested me and there was a lot of suspense, but I quickly found the story so opaque and frustrating that I kept thinking about jacking it in. I only persevered because The reviews were amazing and i was stuck in bed with a cold.
Ok, there is a twist which explains why questions were not previously answered. However, to make the twist work as a twist, some major stuff had to be completely unnoticed before, which just didn’t ring true. Also, some major leads are mentioned but not followed up properly, which made no sense (but was necessary to draw out the suspense). I also found none of the characters particularly well developed, let alone believable.

So enjoyed this-until the last few chapters!

Very gripping and intriguing story-line which was well written and well read. The plot was credible and I was so looking forward to the unravelling of it. Then for me it lost all credibility and became very close to absurd for the last few chapters. What a HUGE disappointment. If I hadn't enjoyed it so much for the majority of the novel, I would have asked for a 'refund'.

Beautiful told

An intriguing story about the long term effects of child abuse in adults. An exploration of mental health, and the impact on families. Well told. Enjoyed it
