Bob writes limericks and jingles, and fears he will be out of his class amongst the literati. But the members of the circle come from all walks of life and practice many forms of writing, from fantasy to household hints. There seems to be nothing about any of them to incite a serial killer. However, there is an arsonist in their midst, burning his victims to death, and Bob becomes a suspect.

You probably need to already love the characters
A serial killer is targeting teenagers, and clinical psychologist Tony Hill and DCI Carol Jordan are on the cases, which initially don’t appear related. Good backstory on Tony’s mother. You probably need to already love the characters to love this, but I do, enough so that I immediately started the next in the series as soon as I finished. Bechdel test: Pass.

did grasp the elements of the conclusion early in the story. However, the telling and twists if the unraveling plot fixated my attention. McDermid's details and descriptions are a masterful example of this genre.

Couldn't stop listening
This is no doubt one of McDermid's best. A well woven story integrating a contemporary theme regarding childbirth, parenting.

Excellent read!
This is the first book I have read by the author, and I was pleasantly surprised. Well written, great story with a couple twists.

amazing book LGBTQI FRIENDLY
Nice to read such a brilliant queer author. LGBTQI friendly. Queerness woven in seamlessly as it should be. Women are heros here.
