Publisher's Summary

"Queen of Suspense" Mary Higgins Clark and Alafair Burke are back with their fourth book in the New York Times best-selling Under Suspicion series; Every Breath You Take follows television producer Laurie Moran's investigation of the unsolved Met Gala murder - in which a wealthy widow was pushed to her death from the famous museum's rooftop.

Laurie Moran's professional life is a success - her television show, Under Suspicion, is a hit in both the ratings and its record of solving cold cases. But her romantic break from former host Alex Buckley has left her with on-air talent she can't stand - Ryan Nichols - and a sense of loneliness, despite her loving family.

Now Ryan has suggested a new case. Three years ago Virginia Wakeling, a member of the board of trustees of the Metropolitan Museum of Art and one of the museum's most generous donors, was found in the snow after being thrown from the museum's roof on the night of its most celebrated fund-raiser, the Met Gala. The leading suspect then and now is her much younger boyfriend and personal trainer, Ivan Gray.

Ivan runs a trendy, successful boutique gym called Punch - a business funded in no small part by the late Virginia - which happens to be the gym Ryan frequents. Laurie's skepticism about the case is upended by a tip from her father's NYPD connection, and soon Laurie realizes there are a bevy of suspects - including Virginia's trusted inner circle.

As the Under Suspicion crew pries into the lives of a super wealthy real estate family with secrets to hide, danger mounts for several witnesses - and for Laurie.

Rinse, lather, repeat

I️ usually love the under suspicion novels but this was just not up to par. First the narrator was basically just reading the book. There was very little variation with her character voices and it was hard to tell who was who. Second, the story just felt like it was rushed and nothing was very well developed. Lastly, the story just seemed like it could have done more and made the characters more interesting and it ended in a similar way to the previous book. Overall, I️ was super disappointed.

Bring back Jan Maxwell

The narrator totally ruined this book. All the cataract ears sounded the same. No attempt was made to make Jerry sound like a man. She would also stop in the middle of a sentence making the story incoherent. I love this series and all of Mary Higgins Clark’s books, but this narrator was just awful.

Poor Narration

Loved the last 3 books, Jan made the characters come alive, you knew which character was talking. The latest book with Heather, I had a hard time following the characters, they all sounded the same. I was really looking forward to this book till I found out Jan wasn't narrating it. The ending seemed rushed bit, not a lot of wrap up but I still liked the story.

where is Jan Maxwell?

Liked the book and will continue to read this series but Heather Lind was no Jan Maxwell. Please bring Maxwell back because Miss Lind was too hard to follow. Her voices all sounded pretty much the same to my ear.

Didn’t like the reader

You need Jan Maxwell back to do the reading of the books. This new reader made 30 year old women sound like stupid teenage girls!! Please get Jan back!!!

Recycled MHC!

The latest in the Under Suspicion series is boring and lacks an original plot. I seriously doubt that Mary Higgins Clark actually co-wrote this book. I've read almost every MHC novel and this one seems more like it was written by Alafair Burke while MHC provided the outline. There is very little character development and the story seems rushed. I had high hopes for this book but it's definitely not the author(s) best work.

Not typical MHC novel

I enjoyed the previous novels of this series but this was just a repeat of the other books. My next purchase of her book is if she is the only writer. No more purchase audiobook for this series for me.

Every Breath You Take

The story was great but the narration was so bad that it was distracting. The voices of the characters were off in my opinion.

Good story, but narration was mediocre.

As usual, another Under Suspicion series novel did not disappoint. My only complaint is in the narration. Except for a couple of characters, this new narrator wasn’t as good with the different voices as Jan Maxwell. Maybe I wouldn’t feel as much that way, if I hadn’t come to really like the characters the way that Jan Maxwell presented them.
All in all, it’s a good story. But maybe read the book in print instead of listening to audible for this one.

Loved it!

Mary Higgins Clark and Alafair Burke has written a wonderful murder mystery.
Heather Lind as narrator has a clear and pleasant voice. Very easy to follow along with.
I look forward to more in this Under Suspicion novel series.
I can't wait to see what Lori delves into next.
I highly recommend this book.
