Resumen del Editor

This first installment of a cozy mystery series transports listeners back to the bygone era of 1923 Britain, where unflappable flapper and fledgling journalist Daisy Dalrymple daringly embarks on her first writing assignment, and promptly stumbles across a corpse.

No stranger to sprawling country estates, wealthy Daisy Dalrymple is breaking new ground in having scandalously traded silver spoon for pen and camera to cover a story for Town and Country magazine. But her planned interviews with the inhabitants of Wentwater Court give way to interrogation after suave Lord Stephen Astwick meets a dire fate on the tranquil skating pond.

Armed with evidence that his fate was anything but accidental, Daisy joins forces with Scotland Yard to examine an esteemed collection of suspects and to see that the unlikely culprit doesn't slip through their fingers just as the unfortunate Astwick slipped through the ice.

Harlequin romance meets Scotland Yard

This is a fluffy listen, enjoyable if you are in the mood for a light serving and don't mind an improbable resolution at the end. Although well enough done for the genre, I don't recommend this for fans of Michael Connelly, Sue Grafton, Agatha Christie, Stephen Cannell, Tami Hoag, and other such mystery/detective authors. The 3 stars were awarded primarily for the narration - I do enjoy Bernadette Dunn's work!

Pretty good

I enjoyed this. The plot and characters were well developed. I didn't like the ending, but I'll try the next in the series.

Carola Dunn-- my new favorite cozy mystery writer

Daisy Dalrymple and Alec Fletcher are a match made in cozy mystery heaven. The young miss is a delightful combination of upper class grace and responsibility and a spirit of adventure. The air sizzles between them as Daisy and Alec seek to find the truth about the death of a ne'er-do-well blackmailer and to determine who they can trust in the process -- even whether or not they can trust each other! Delicious!

Daisy at Wentworth... wow!

Story good
Performer excellent except for one word! Sorry, must point it out! “VICTUAL”
The word is now usually spelled victual, or on occasion vittle, but the pronunciation has remained (vĭt′l).

Fair listen

This is a basic country-house murder mystery. I had difficulty keeping up with the characters in the beginning, but it got better once I was more familiar with the story. It didn’t grab me in a strong way. But I stayed with it and found it fine overall, as many of these types of books are imperfect yet entertaining enough. The narrator’s voice is pleasing. You just need to overlook a few mispronunciations and inconsistencies. One thing I find difficult to listen to is whispering. I wish narrators could find a way to imply it without actually doing it. This book was good enough for me to want to pick up the next one in the series.

Jazz-age period cozy with interesting cast members

I enjoyed this mystery. It's the time-honored house party setting, with an array of characters and a plot that unwinds cleverly. Loved the narrator. You have to suspend belief in that Scotland Yard welcomes a houseguest helping with the case, but I was happy to do that. Fun listen!

Slow Down!

I might have enjoyed this book very much if the narrator hadn't spoken so quickly that I was still grasping the content of one sentence while she had reached the end of the next. Speed-reading is not an asset for audio books.

Really enjoyed it

I enjoyed this new kind of mystery. It’s a different setting and time period than I’m used to. The narration was good the storyline was good. I have no complaints at all.
