Publisher's summary

Ella Mae LeFaye's delicious pies are still drawing long lines, as well as the attention of Beatrice Burbank, president of the Camellia Club, a philanthropic organization comprised of high-society Southern ladies from the charming and affluent town of Sweet Briar, Georgia. To ensure the success of their centennial dessert cookbook, Bea hires Ella Mae to teach the tasty tricks of her trade to the club's members at their annual retreat. Eager to work on new recipes for customers with food allergies and dietary restrictions, Ella Mae readily agrees.

But when Ella Mae finds Bea's body floating in Lake Havenwood, she wonders what she's gotten herself mixed up in. Someone certainly wanted Bea to eat humble pie, and the retreat offers no shortage of unsavory characters, including Ella Mae's longtime nemesis, Loralyn Gaynor. Ella Mae definitely doesn't need magic to tell her that she must find the killer before someone else gets panned.

OK

I was put off by the performance, the story was lovely..The audio story teller was off putting. I will not order this same audible reader again. A horrible voice in ,she could not pull off a southern voice.

Nice sweet ending

The ending was sweet. The book was good. It drowned on just a little bit, but I really liked the resolution with Opal, but to the narrator please retire the voice that you use for Reba because it is just so obnoxious, and I don’t know anyone who sounds like that, and I am from the south..

Loved it

I like how the narrator had a voice for each character. It kept me entertained. This is why I like mystery books.

good story line

I loved the story line. I didn't love the narrator. she was stiff at times and over pronounced words. other words she dropped the gs in ing to sound more southern im guessing but it was annoying. I liked the story enough to finish the books but I won't listen to her again.

I believe in magic...

This series by Ellery Adams can not be classified as just a cozy mystery nor a paranormal mystery, it falls somewhere between both. The Author is able to immerse the reader into a world of believable magic and still tell a story beyond the magic itself. As a reader, I know I have found a strong read when I close the book and wonder what will happen next. Adams use of imagery allows the reader to “see” in detail the events that are unfolding within the plot without being overly wordy. The plot and subplot have some dark moments, not as clean as a typical cozy mystery, just enough to capture the moments without grotesque descriptions. The plot is well developed and the characters for the most part are believable.

I love the balance!

The balance is once again very good between the pie shop, family, friends, pets, romance versus the magic, greed, evil etc. I've enjoyed this series a lot!

Wonderful ending

As interesting as the others in this series. Good distraction from the unpleasant things in life these days. Liked the ending.

Tender Flakey Goodness

I love all of the books I have read/listened to from Ellery Adams, but I think this is my new favorite of this series) well until the next one comes out and then it becomes my new favorite).
Ella Mae and her friends and family come together again to defeat another deadly nemesis with fun, flirting and food along the way.
Serious issues face her and hunky Hugh - will this new development through a ratchet in their relationship? No spoilers here - you must read it for yourself! You will love it!
Also another bonus is that all the books I have read that have food usually are all about sweet, syrupy, buttery goodness - which I have tried to ignore because I have a wheat and dairy allergy, so I always think of ways to change the recipe for me to be able to enjoy. Sometimes though it's just too hard to make it as good (as I remember or it sounds). Ella Mae introduces allergy free crust and pies and I can't wait to try try it! My granddaughter also has Celiac so I am very glad to see a change/option in the books! Am I motivated by food? Maybe!
The Wounded Warrior program is also in this book, which is another program near and dear to my heart!
Regardless of the food or the program mentioned in here, this book has a great story line and plot - as do all of Ellery's books that I have read so far!
You will not be disappointed!!
