Publisher's summary

When a gentlewoman is savagely murdered in her own bed, Lord Redmond and Inspector Haze must pick apart her seemingly blameless life to understand what drove her attacker to such frenzied rage—and how they managed to escape from a locked room in a house filled with people.

The closer Redmond and Haze get to the truth, the more secrets they uncover, and the greater the risk the perpetrator will strike again.

Will they solve the case before the killer claims another victim?

Another chapter with Redmond and Haze

I have thoroughly enjoyed this series. Redmond and Haze at their best. Without spoilers, I will say this one had a predictable but sad ending.

Another great addition to this fine series.

This installment of Redmond and Haze tugged at the heartstrings. Despite the sad subject matter, the story moved at a good pace, with vivid description and a nice tidying up of all the loose ends. The author does a really good job of fleshing out the characters in this series and the way the relationships between the characters deepens over time lends authenticity. Off to listen to the next installment now! A very binge-able series indeed.

Entertaining

I figured out who the murderer was early on in the story. Nevertheless, it was still entertaining and the narrator did a great job in differentiating the characters, including a slight improvement on Jason's American accent. SPOILER ALERT- don't read any further to avoid a spoiler... I also predicted the sad ending of a particular character. Although sad, the particular (and predictable) storyline of this character was getting old in my opinion so I'm not completely & utterly heartbroken, although I would have preferred a different outcome, such as the author could've changed the character's outlook on life and written a different path for them, but it was not to be. Am looking forward to the next installment.

The Victorian sleuths at it again in London

Another excellent thriller by the good doctor and Scotland Yard! It’s always a twister when there’s a “whodunnit” in a locked room.. great conclusion with unexpected turns in the tale. Unexpected events in the lives of our heroes as well…

Sad

Oh no. I knew something was coming but never expected what did.
An intense murder and a tangled web. Left with a sad ending.

Different narrator please.

I've read or listened to all Redmond & Haze Mysteries...and they've all been very good.
I've not understood why a female narrator is reading books about two men. I can differentiate her voices between Redmond and Haze and she does a good job on the books. However, Lord Redmond is definitely sounding more like a prig as of the last 2 books. In other words, to me he's becoming more & more unlikable.
Change to a male narrator please.

Heartbreaking

The mudder investigated leads to a heartbreaking situation. The personal lives of the leads also ends in a heartbreaking situation.
