Resumen del Editor

When a young man is found hanging inside the Ashford family tomb, Redmond and Haze assume the man had run afoul of the noble family and paid for it with his life. Once they identify the remains, they discover not only the victim’s shocking secrets but that the young man had an unexpected connection to Jason.

With few leads and no obvious motive for the murder, will Redmond and Haze solve the case before the killer claims another life?

Excellent narration

Great paving and voice inflection. Each character had a unique sound and she is spot on with the American accent.

Great

Another great addition to this wonderful series. A winding road to figure out the murdered. Sometimes it seems without Jason I do not think the crime could be figured out!

Excellent narration as usual!

Daniel’s angst is getting old!

Daniel is starting to come across as very petulant and self righteous. It is hard to see someone like Jason actually being drawn to the person Daniel has become. I have enjoyed the series but the last two books have been less enjoyable due to this increasing attitude in Daniel’s character. Otherwise the story was interesting and I’ll give the next one a shot, hoping Daniel’s character grows up. If not, I may give it up.

Another fabulous murder mystery

This story had a great buildup with unexpected twists, resulting in a surprise culprit. A fun read, as usual, from Irina Shapiro. I'm now looking forward to #10 in this series. Redmond and Hayes are a great duo. I thought the voice for Redmond sounded more like a woman than the other male characters did, That was a bit distracting for me, so I dropped the narrator down to 4 stars. The story gets a resounding 5 stars.

A Great Who dunnit

Once again we find ourselves engulfed in a sea of mystery. A body is discovered in the most unlikely of places with a bevy of potential killers. Redmond and Haze have their work cut out for them.
I listened to the entire book in one sitting, it held my interest the entire day. Every person you meet meet in this book seems like a likely suspect and I was quite certain I had the whole thing figured out from the start. I was completely wrong though. I never suspected the actual culprit but if you pay close attention to all the interactions and interviews yoh might just figure it out. One thing this book is missing however, is a lot of the personal stories on Daniel and Jason. There is a little on Daniel but not a lot of personal drama. I kind of missed it. Still a great book.

The Story Details Don’t Fit the Setting

This entire series could have been so much better had the author bothered to align the storyline with mainstream sociopolitical ideology of 1870 England. Throughout this series, the author presents the “PC” dogma of today as if it were common opinions of the 1870s. Additionally, the routine use of modern terminology (such as STDs instead of VD), and slang (such as the derogatory word “broad” that originated in the US around 1912). Even more troubling was the historical inaccuracy of presenting English society-at-large as having been pro-Union (US) abolitionists during the US Civil War. England sent numerous military advisers, observers and support to the Confederacy. The lack of attention to details is annoying and distracting. If the author wanted to write a novel of characters portraying political ideologies of today, she would have done better setting the timeframe to somewhere around 1995-2020.
