Get ready to change the way you think about economics.

Richard H. Thaler has spent his career studying the radical notion that the central agents in the economy are humans - predictable, error-prone individuals. Misbehaving is his arresting, frequently hilarious account of the struggle to bring an academic discipline back down to earth - and change the way we think about economics, ourselves, and our world.

Traditional economics assumes rational actors. Early in his research, Thaler realized these Spock-like automatons were nothing like real people. Whether buying a clock radio, selling basketball tickets, or applying for a mortgage, we all succumb to biases and make decisions that deviate from the standards of rationality assumed by economists. In other words we misbehave. More importantly, our misbehavior has serious consequences. Dismissed at first by economists as an amusing sideshow, the study of human miscalculations and their effects on markets now drives efforts to make better decisions in our lives, our businesses, and our governments.

Coupling recent discoveries in human psychology with a practical understanding of incentives and market behavior, Thaler enlightens listeners about how to make smarter decisions in an increasingly mystifying world. He reveals how behavioral economic analysis opens up new ways to look at everything from household finance to assigning faculty offices in a new building to TV game shows, the NFL draft, and businesses like Uber.

Laced with antic stories of Thaler's spirited battles with the bastions of traditional economic thinking, Misbehaving is a singular look into profound human foibles. When economics meets psychology, the implications for individuals, managers, and policy makers are both profound and entertaining.

Reseñas editoriales

Editors Select, May 2015 - With the backing of two Nobel Prize winners in the field of Economics and a ringing endorsement from Malcolm Gladwell, who said, 'If I had to be trapped in an elevator with any contemporary intellectual, I'd pick Richard Thaler,' I knew Misbehaving would be an enlightening listen. But it was also entertaining in the way that a great college class can be, with the professor using real-life scenarios and his own biography to color his points. In Misbehaving, Thaler argues against the traditional economic thinking that humans are 'homo economicus' – rational decision makers programmed to act in their best interests – and asserts, instead, that our consistent deviation from these assumed standards reveals new ways to think about the world. —Doug, Audible Editor

An excellent introduction to Behavioral Economics from one of the key figures in the field. He comes off as a bit arrogant, but then maybe he has a right to be. Interesting at many levels.
If you want to continue to believe in Rational Choice, however, DO NOT read this book. It will shake your comfortable beliefs in the "rationality" of man.

If you want to know about Behavioral Economics....

I enjoyed this book, the way it studies human behavior and the classy modest jokes it includes in between.

Great book

I did enjoy this book, though it got too long and even boring at times.
I almost felt that the author needed to talk about himself in a false humble way.
However, the last chapter (conclusions) is a very good

I found this book wire interesting though too long

Very instructive. I will listen it again to learn more. And maybe read a Chinese version to clarify several things I am not quite followed yet.

Misbehaving in one's financial life life is at epidemic levels in America. I see it my personal finances as well as those around me. It is of great interest to those in business and concern to all who follow politics. We're irrational when it comes to money. I much enjoyed the insights in this book. The author does a great job of framing technical ideas. It makes it attainable to me, a layman and so I feel many others as well. The personal stories and anecdotes are fun and move the story along, along with bringing home the fact that even in academia, people are often irrational. Which the author does with humor and class.

The kinda things scientists need to be workin on!

o livro é muito bom. infelizmente a quantidade de referências e nomes de cientistas, políticos e estudante o torna muito difícil de seguir.
ao ouvi enquanto dirigia me fez perder diversas referências.
ainda assim o conteúdo e a descrição dos testes executadas abre um caminho maravilhoso para meu entendimento de economia comportamental. Adorei o livro por isso.
a performance do leitor é impecável e de fácil entendimento.

ótimo início....ainda assim difícil!

I run a blog centered on raising the reader’s financial IQ: https://befinanciallywoke.com and as such I consider it my duty to continue my financial education through the reading of as much financial literature as I can get my hands on. I came upon this delightful title from another excellent read: Payback Time, by Phil Town. Misbehaving was a surprise as it was not only enlightening for someone who is an active investor but also secretly and subtly funny. I thoroughly enjoyed the antics of the so named non-human “Econ’s”. Antics, which of course made them very human after all. Misbehaving takes the reader from the beginnings of a new science, Behavioral Economics, through to what it is today. In the midst of this brief historical jaunt, Thaler allows the reader to see the struggle for legitimacy through his lens and he does it without pomp or raised feathers. I enjoyed the ride and finished the book with a smile on my face. Thank you Mr. Thaler.

Secretly, Subtly Humorous
