Publisher's summary

The first official Minecraft novel! In the tradition of iconic adventures like Robinson Crusoe and Treasure Island, the number one New York Times best-selling author of World War Z tells the story of a hero - stranded in the world of Minecraft - who must unravel the secrets of a mysterious island in order to survive.

Washed up on a beach, the lone castaway looks around the shore. Where am I? Who am I? And why is everything made of blocks? But there isn't much time to soak up the sun. It's getting dark, and there's a strange new world to explore!

The top priority is finding food. The next is not becoming food. Because there are others out there on the island...like the horde of zombies that appear after night falls. Crafting a way out of this mess is a challenge like no other. Who could build a home while running from exploding creepers, armed skeletons, and an unstoppable tide of hot lava? Especially with no help except for a few makeshift tools and sage advice from an unlikely friend: a cow.

In this world, the rules don't always make sense, but courage and creativity go a long way. There are forests to explore, hidden underground tunnels to loot, and undead mobs to defeat. Only then will the secrets of the island be revealed.

Two editions, two narrators, one thrilling story. Enjoy this version read by Jack Black, and then be sure to check out the other available version narrated by Samira Wiley.

Surprising enjoyable story ride!

Jack Black really nails it! Listened to with my 14 year old son and we both thoroughly enjoyed it. Use that credit here. You won't regret it

Better than you would think

Jack Black has excellent emotional range in his voice and the story perfectly captures the adventures of your average player discovering the world of Minecraft.

Absolutely worth a listen. The only bad thing I can say about it is this is the only book Jack Black has narrated (as of this writing).

Perfect.

There was nothing bad that I could say about this. Just the struggle of the lost and confused is enough to convey what being inside this world is like. The feeling behind the pain and suffering that this gives off is what gives the reality of, for example, burning alive might be like.

Books make the world bigger

honestly, I didn't know how I was going to feel at the end of reading a Minecraft story of all things. though I've never known Minecraft to be one to tell stories, this one in particular was a pleasant surprise. Max Brooks, writer of world war z, was able to encapsulate the emotions and feelings of what it felt like to first enter the world of Minecraft almost to a T. he was able to perfectly mix his more adult writing style from previous books into this child novel to make it the perfect mixture of story for people of any age. having Jack Black narrate was the perfect icing and cherry on top.

Jack Black put a lot of emotion into this story, more than I've heard most narrators have. I couldn't help but feel engaged with the main character and his blights as he faced his many different challenges. Jack Black certainly was the final hook that pulled me into getting the story, pulling my curiosity into full-blown engagement. I don't think I could hear another Minecraft story after being spoiled with this one, and now have to seek out more books that Jack Black is voiced in.

so to you curious spectators or doubting speculators, hear this. if you wanted the perfect flashback to when you first played minecraft, slap on some c418, and listen to this book.

Nothing wrong with careful curiosity, right? 😂😉

Great listen and fun for the whole family

My kids and husband have liked playing Minecraft for a while now, my husband even got me interested in it when I realized I could design our kitchen remodel in the LEGO like virtual world, so listening to an audible book about the game was a guaranteed win! Loved the story, and Jack Black’s narration was perfection! My only disappointment is there aren’t more narrated by Jack Black! Please Mr. Black do another one and continue the story!

A fun little book made better by Jack Black

I had been interested in the story for a while, and was thrilled to see it on Audible, narrated by Jack Black of all people. I wasn't disappointed. Jack Black made everything fun, and he was a good fit to narrate this story.

The book itself was pretty good. It's written in the form of a journal, and the way the character in the book makes discoveries almost makes it play out like an instruction manual for the game. The author does a great job at giving his characters personality. I felt for this poor guy, fending off zombies and trying to make sense of the confounding world of Minecraft. I felt plot was a bit weak, but if you enjoy playing Minecraft, I think it's a fun little read, and even better if you like Jack Black.
