Publisher's Summary

Imagine how different your life would be if you could spot the manipulation tactics people use against you and know the influence and persuasion techniques to defend against it.

Almost every person will suffer some form of manipulative behavior at some stage in their life, it's unavoidable. Whether it's an overt form of intimidation and bullying in the workplace or more subtle covert manipulation within a relationship. It's much more prevalent than you think. But most people aren't equipped with the right observation strategies to pick-up on it, or the right mental make-up to deal with it.

Katherine Chambers is an ex Stanford Psychologist who specializes in all forms of neuroscientific and psychotherapy subjects. However, it wasn't until she left college life and entered the "real world" that she started to understand these theoretical topics in a practical sense. Over the past 15 years she has built a multi-six-figure consulting business and a family of her own. But it wasn't all plain sailing; she has gone through more than her fair share of manipulative relationships along the way.

In this insightful and functional book, Chambers gives listeners a firsthand look into the scientific subjects she studied within academia as well as a practical real life guide on how to:

  • Spot covert manipulation occurring
  • Understand why people do what they do
  • Identify the warning signs that you are being manipulated
  • Develop practical persuasion and influence techniques to defend against it
  • Master the mechanics of verbal and non-verbal communication
  • Deal with manipulation in any relationship
  • Raise your overall confidence and self-esteem to immunize yourself going forward

Basic understanding on Manipulation

This is a really well put-together book about both psychology and sociology. It has a lot of information on stimulation and response, and uses a lot of examples to explain the studies. Anyone looking to learn more about sociology should check out this book! It is hard to tell if someone is manipulating you. This book has given me basic understanding on how to know it and how to defend when someone is trying to persuade or influence me. The tips on how to assess manipulation are spot on. Especially when you are in a relationship, it is important to know if that person is manipulating you or not. I recommend this book.

Cool book

As a psychology major, I expected to know everything in this book already, but it takes more of a practical business approach. This approach in my opinion is much more applicable and useful for a salesman or any other professional manipulator. Apply these techniques and you will succeed. I find manipulation to be a very interesting topic. This book has a ton of information on the subject and is laid out extremely well. You will get a complete run down and manipulation and mind control, how to apply it and using various methods and techniques as well. Highly recommend to anyone interested in the subject.

AWESOME BOOK.. Five star..

This book is very interesting. What I have learned from this book is that facial expression plays an important role for us because this is where we show what we feel like fear, happy and surprise or even anger as well. Then this book will help you in starting your journey of achieving most suitable opportunities through step by step guideline. Definitely a good reference for myself who wants to master persuasion. One of the best books I have listen about manipulation and it is worth recommending to everyone.

Straight to the point

What was one of the most memorable moments of Manipulation: A Psychologist's Guide to Detect Emotional Manipulation, Spot Mind Control Tricks of Influence & Persuasion Tactics to Defend Against It?

As for me, as much as I hate to admit it, it seems like I was the one being manipulated. Currently following the techniques shared in the book and looking at my life now, it seems like they're quite effective.

Which character – as performed by Eva R. Marienchild – was your favorite?

My favorite part was when the author made everything simple and made things so clear and concise to make this a very good audiobook.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

It's almost 2 hours long so it took me about 2 days to finish it.

Any additional comments?

It was a brisk book to read and it surprisingly contains some thoughts that one can use in this present reality. It made me truly stop and reconsider if I ought to converse with one specific person in my life whom I assume to be controlling me in his favor. I simply discovered I have candidly manipulative ways myself as well and I arrange to transform them when I can. It's the sort of book that everybody needs to peruse, and rehash, until they comprehend the genuine universe of Manipulation.

Good information

Helps you recognise if you are being manipulated. Have re-listened several times, especially to my bookmarked sections.

not what I thought

I thought this would be a guide on understanding people and how they think but it seems the book is targeted only towards people in a manipulative relationship and how to remove themselves from that situation. perhaps that changes later in the book but from the first two hours I returned the book
