"You will be called Anippe, daughter of the Nile. Do you like it?" Without waiting for a reply, she pulls me into her squishy, round tummy for a hug. I'm trying not to cry. Pharaoh's daughters don't cry. When we make our way down the tiled hall, I try to stop at ummi Kiya's chamber. I know her spirit has flown, yet I long for one more moment. Amenia pushes me past so I keep walking and don't look back. Like the waters of the Nile, I will flow.

Anippe has grown up in the shadows of Egypt's good god Pharaoh, aware that Anubis, god of the afterlife, may take her or her siblings at any moment. She watched him snatch her mother and infant brother during childbirth, a moment that awakened in her a terrible dread of ever bearing a child. Now she is to be become the bride of Sebak, a kind but quick-tempered Captain of Pharaoh Tut's army. In order to provide Sebak the heir he deserves yet protect herself from the underworld gods, Anippe must launch a series of deceptions, even involving the Hebrew midwives - women ordered by Tut to drown the sons of their own people in the Nile.

When she finds a baby floating in a basket on the great river, Anippe believes Egypt's gods have answered her pleas, entrenching her more deeply in deception and placing her and her son, Mehy, whom handmaiden Miriam calls Moses, in mortal danger. As bloodshed and savage politics shift the balance of power in Egypt, the gods reveal their fickle natures, and Anippe wonders if her son, a boy of Hebrew blood, could one day become king. Or does the god of her Hebrew servants, the one they call El Shaddai, have a different plan - for them all?

I have enjoyed many of Mesu Andrews books and this is one of the best!

Lovely Historical spiritual fiction

I enjoyed the story learned something
I had never picked up while reading the life of Moses. I had assumed it would be more about Moses but it is really about his “adopted” mom. Politics, Egyptian culture/ history, family dynamics, cultural differences, love, the impact of childhood trauma, all woven into a beautiful redemption story and the love of God the one true God. I recommend listening to it. I look forward to finding more books from this author. If you like the way the show The Chosen has brought to life the people who were around Jesus then you’ll like this book

Enjoyed the story learned something new too!

Mesu Andrews weaves Biblical fact with some fiction to create novels that will keep you listening (audiobook listener) when you probably should be doing other things! 😂
Her telling of Old Testament events adds detail that we might miss otherwise. Great novels, every one of them.

Biblical fiction at its BEST.

Would you listen to The Pharaoh's Daughter CA again? Why?

YES! It is addictive, intelligently written, and I enjoyed it very much.

Any additional comments?

The thing I did not like, is that there is a series of books here but this appears to be the only one available in audiobook format. For all I can tell, the continuing story simply is not available to listen to, and neither the publisher nor the author have answered my queries on the subject, as of yet. I hate it when I get sucked into a good book and then find the rest of the series inaccessible.

Sooo good, but then...brick wall

I am only disappointed with the narrators accent for the Hebrews. To me it sounds like German Baby Talk and made the Hebrews sound ignorant.

Mesu, Thank you for a very good story and all your research.

Robin Miles narration of this FABULOUS book was superb!!! Mesa Andrews outdid herself with the story but Robin was truly the best narrator I’ve listened to-and that’s saying something. :)

Best ever narrator!
