Some genres were never meant to cross.

Joe Slade is a detective with a hot lead and a warm gun. He no longer believes in happy ever afters, but his faith in plot twists is devout. Good thing.

He is about to discover the biggest twist of all.

Joe Slade is not real.

He is a character in a series of mystery novels. And when he discovers all his pain has been in the name of book sales, there will be hell to pay. Vowing revenge on his author, he will set off for the World Where the Books Are Written. The road will take him through genres foreign and treacherous: high fantasy, bodice-ripping romance, intergalactic sci-fi, and others even more awful and terrifying.

But what if this new life is about more than just living? And will Joe still come out on top when all the rules have changed?

Critic reviews

"This is one of the most clever, entertaining, and hilarious books I've ever read." (Joe Siple, best-selling author of The Five Wishes of Mr. Murray McBride)

While the storyline was entertaining, I didn’t find it engrossing. It was easy to put down and do something else. Though, I can see how some people would really like this book.

In regards to the narration, there were some mispronunciations that really got on my nerves and others that made it sound as though it was being read by a bot.

Interesting concept

I bought the audiobook after starting the Kindle version so I could listen while I worked. However, the narrator doesn't do different voices, even for the female characters, so it was really hard to know who was talking. Also, he had some issues pronouncing some words like cauterized, groggily and starry. Nothing major but I expected better. I'll be finishing it on my Kindle and not Audible :(

Great story but terrible narrator

The premise of this book intrigued me. I'd thought it could be a lot of fun. Sadly, it was not fun, no better than background noise, and by the half way mark, I gave up completely. What a shame

This has been a very fun book to listen to. Hopefully you have more books in this seires! Please, please continue to use the narrator, Charlie Weirach III. His voice is easy to listen to. He gets the story read in such a way that you can easily follow what is going on in the plot! Very interesting plot by the way. Thanks for putting this out here on Audible. You have definitely gained a follower and listener for the Narrator! Tracy Babione
