As champions of justice, they remain a symbol of hope and courage to everyone...except the villains they once overthrew.

Nova has a reason to hate the Renegades, and she is on a mission for vengeance. As she gets closer to her target, she meets Adrian, a Renegade boy who believes in justice—and in Nova. But Nova's allegiance is to a villain who has the power to end them both.

Critic reviews

"[T]his fun and surprisingly thoughtful superhero tale will be a rewarding listen." - AudioFile

"In a vividly dark and fully imagined universe where special abilities are feared unless they can be strictly controlled and labeled, Meyer celebrates and subverts popular superhero tropes while mining the gray area between malevolence and virtue.
Third-person narration builds suspense as it shifts between Nova and Adrian, a Renegade with his own secrets; the worldbuilding details and many combat sequences will captivate devotees of superhero comics. Beyond the capes and masks is a strikingly grounded story of star-crossed would-be lovers, deception, and the recognition that most of humanity exists between the extremes of good and evil."--Publishers Weekly, starred review

"Tackles a familiar genre in a brand new way."--Hypable.com

"Exciting...perfect for your Fall #TBR list."--PopSugar.com

"Even reluctant fans of hero fantasies will fall for the smart plot and wonderful world-building. Prepare to fangirl."--Justine Magazine

"Meyer delivers a balance between intricate world-building and fast-paced action sequences. Nova’s childhood tragedy will draw sympathy from readers as they watch her integrate into the group of Renegades in order to seek vengeance. Back-stabbing, plot twists, and hidden agendas will have readers turning pages in an attempt to discover the truth."--School Library Journal

Praise for Marissa Meyer's Heartless:

"In Heartless, the nonsense that is Wonderland gets a reverential makeover, full of heart and its own idiosyncratic character." Gregory Maguire, Wicked and After Alice

"The author’s best fantasy yet. . . . Meyer has woven all the elements of darkness and light, fate and free will, and love and hatred into an unforgettable story of the evolution of the Red Queen from a young girl who dreamed of true love and freedom to a madwoman best remembered for the phrase 'Off with his head.' If you only read one fractured fairy tale this year, make it Heartless." —School Library Journal, starred review

I really love this story and series. Although the ending has me screeching in my head. I guess it's good that I own Archenemies AND Supernova and plan to listen to them next.

The performers do an excellent job performing this story. I'm sure I'll listen to this book again and again.

Listened x4! Love it!

Wow, what a great read! I don't often go off about how amazing a book was, but this one was most definitely worth the price. Every day that I read it, I couldn't stop myself from talking about it with family and friends. I have never read Marissa Meyer before and will definitely be checking out The Lunar Chronicles. I absolute love her writing style and creativity. It is not easy to take a concept like superheroes and villains and make it truly unique, but she has definitely managed to do that here. She has included so many awesome dimensions in this book: action, adventure, sci fi, fantasy, and even a very intriguing star crossed lovers/Romeo and Juliet type romance that doesn't crowd the story. In fact, the book really does a good job of not emphasizing one dimension too much and instead keeps the reader interested by steering clear of predictable outcomes.

I have to say that I am disappointed that the second one will not be out for probably a long time, but damn am I anticipating that release. This first installment definitely ended with a bang and left me anxious and ready to see the 2nd book. The author definitely has a talent for building up a story and then leaving a thousand possibilities lingering at the end. I am extremely curious about how she will continue the story in the 2nd installment.

This is already one of my favorites and I highly recommend it to anyone, particularly those interested in finding the (unfortunately rare these days) unique sci fi story. The narrators were both excellent as well and I'm glad that they chose to use dual narration on this one. Both narrators did such a good job that I do not know if I could imagine Nova or Adrian being portrayed by anyone else.

5 stars all around!

I enjoyed this audio book so much more than I thoght I would. I'm not normally one for super hero books, but I found it fun.

I really enjoyed the two main characters, Nova and Adrian. In my opinion this is a very character driven book, which I have no problem with. That said though, I didnt feel like the ending was anything mind blowing or shocking. It kinda of had the same casualness and tone as the rest of the book. This is why I gave it a 4 stars. No real big ending.

That said though, you really get to know the characters and their histories. Why they choose to be an anarchists or a renegade. You relate to them. Cheer for them. Care for them. I feel like this book was a really good setup for a sequal, so we shall see what Ms. Meyer has in store for us.

Character Driven
