It is 1969 in London and Dawn Blackwell is at loose ends. She has just graduated from university and has no job and only a few friends. She has given up her dream of earning a spot on the professional golf tour and spends most of her time reading newspapers and listening to records in her flat. Wars are raging in Southeast Asia, there are student protests in Paris, and the revolution in music is taking over the U.K. On a lark, she wanders into The Rat’s Nest, a hippie coffee-house whose young denizens are presided over by a woman known as Kali.
