Some new schools don't even have playgrounds. Is it any wonder children retreat to "virtual horseplay" via video games? But Drs. Anthony T. DeBenedet and Lawrence J. One of the very best scientific predictors for how any child turns out - in terms of happiness, academic success, leadership skills, and meaningful relationships - is whether at least one adult in their life has consistently shown up for them. In an age of scheduling demands and digital distractions, showing up for your child might sound like a tall order. But as best-selling authors Daniel Siegel and Tina Payne Bryson reassuringly explain, it doesn’t take a lot of time, energy, or money. Instead, showing up means offering a quality of presence.

Publisher's Summary
Listen introduces parents to five simple, practical skills even the most harried parent can use. These tools will help parents strengthen their connection with their child and help build their child's intelligence, cooperation, and ability to learn as they grow. The audiobook delivers detailed information, accompanied by more than 100 real-life stories from parents who've used this approach to address the root causes of their child's difficult behaviors.
Five surprising things parents will learn:
- You don't have to reward or punish willful children to get them to cooperate
- Aggressive kids are frightened kids, and there are simple tools to ease their fear so they don't need to lash out
- Your willingness to just listen to crying or tantrums, often is enough to heal a child's fears and hurts
- Safe play during which your kid becomes the boss, can reveal his hidden feelings - and heal them too
- Parents who regularly listen to one another's struggles, without judging or advising, often clear so much toxic emotion that their children benefit greatly

no better parenting guidance anywhere
I have included Patty Wipfler's guidance (long before this book form) in the postpartum care for every single one of my 470 OB patients. It is THAT right-on, smart, clear, and kind. Here is some of what they have said to me: "I feel like she really loves parents!" "It is so good to hear, when times are hard and I feel discouraged and so unsupported (especially at my job), that this is really important work and I'm doing the best I can." "Over and over she says 'parents love their children so much and want the world for them.' Sometimes I can hear her words in my head and I nearly cry, because it is so true, even when it doesn't look like it." Our OB/Family Practice profession has done a poor job of caring for our patients in the postpartum weeks and months. Patty's work and words help us close that gap.
My one criticism, this audio tape is LONG. t's been hard for me to pick out bite-size pieces to share with overwhelmed parents. I read a few pages from her book and record it on CD's for them. But Patty's voice on this audiobook is really good medicine. Wish it could be more overwhelmed-parent-accessible.

The very best information on how to connect deeply and raise emotionally healthy children
There is nothing like Hand In Hand Parenting. Patty, the founder and also the reader of thisAudiobook is a wealth of simple yet profoundly powerful information on how to deal with a wide range of circumstances that most families encounter at one time or another. It’s a very human approach. It’s respectful, it’s realistic, it’s down to earth, it’s something you can start right away but also build on and deepen for a lifetime. I can’t recommend this book in this philosophy highly enough!

If Yoda and Mrs. Butterworth had a baby it would be Patty Wipfler
I can’t tell you how incredible this book is. Really. You just have to read it yourself, or better yet, have Patty read it to you.
You know how we all say this thing about our parents, “I mean, I know they loved me, I just wish they could have _______.” This book is the bridge to us being able to show up for our kids in the ways our parents weren’t able to show up for us. Patty’s soft soothing voice seems to seep in and replace all the old harsh shameful words I was fed as a child and now regurgitate on my children.
I love the mix of science, theory and practical tools. I’m a researcher at heart and have been studying early childhood development and parenting since my son popped out. This is the first parenting approach that I have found that combines all the values of parenting plus tools that really work. It has totally transformed my family. Even my husband is a huge fan.
I can’t recommend highly enough.

I stopped listening @chapt 12 about picky eating
I was struggling with this book right from almost the beginning but thought to give it a chance. I have listened to many gentle parenting books, and although this book is about being a gentle parent, the whole method felt a bit passive aggressive. There aren't any sources of studies regarding the method that is used in each case and I am an evidence - based fan. Especially when it comes to eating, oversimplifying the reason that kids can be a picky eater and actually forcing them (gently, but still forcing them) to eat the "healthy" eggs and beans is already problematic. I pretty much stopped listening after that. Also, it heavily depends on specific tools and outcomes, like having a listening partner (for many parents that's impossible for various reasons) and the fact that the child will cry and let the frustration out after holding a limit, resulting in doing what the parent would like him to do afterwards. It really doesn't always work this way. I enjoyed much more the books by Sarah Ockwell-Smith and Faber. Regarding the narration, there are mistakes and sentences are repeated but the narrator is for the rest pleasant to listen to. Long story short :Not my cup of tea.

Listening and crying as natural healing tools.
This book show practical and obvious reasons for people to listen. it also also shows how to help a kid to cry as a way of healing yet natural, effective and pretty fast. This way, it is assumed that the child becomes adult free of blocked energy.
We are very grateful for such a book in the hands of many.
