The 1895-96 season promises to be an exceptional one for Amelia Peabody, her dashing Egyptologist husband, Emerson, and their wild and precocious eight-year-old son, Ramses.

The much-coveted burial chamber of the Black Pyramid in Dahshoor is theirs for the digging. But there is a great evil in the wind that roils the hot sands sweeping through the bustling streets and marketplaces of Cairo. The brazen moonlight abduction of Ramses—and an expedition subsequently cursed by misfortune and death—have alerted Amelia to the likely presence of her arch nemesis the Master Criminal, notorious looter of the living and the dead. But it is far more than ill-gotten riches that motivates the evil genius this time around.

For now the most valuable and elusive prize of all is nearly in his grasp: the meddling lady archaeologist who has sworn to deliver him to justice... Amelia Peabody!

Adapted from the novel and produced with a full cast of actors, immersive sound effects and cinematic music!

The actors are terrific! Never thought they could replace Barbara Rosenblat. I love these stories. I have read the series untold times.
I really enjoy the immersion in these performances as well as the books.
I did feel like Ramses was a bit too childish for an 8 yr old. He was also frequently difficult to understand.
Also feel like the sound effects, like walking, aren’t quite right. The sound of the people and traffic outside Asslimie’s shop were well done. Many of the background music choices were spot on.
I can’t wait for the next one!

Very Engaging

I have many graphic audio books at this point in time. I keep hoping to see more full cast books that I have enjoyed reading. I hope they continue with the Amelia Peabody series. I have been a tourist to Egypt and even though the time is very different from when the books were written they still bring to mind very wonderful memories. The first 2 books move a bit slow the ones with Ramses in them are richer. The extra interaction moves the story faster.

Fantastic and very enjoyable voice acting!

Nanette Savard sounds like an aged woman reviewing her diaries with the audience. As Amelia Peabody Emerson is a mature woman (mid to late 30's in this book), this isnt necessarily a bad thing. What is bad is the improper pronunciation of several words and the way she acts.

It happens, I understand that but there are TWO audiobook versions prior to the Graphic Audio version. The absolute best is performed by Barbara Rosenblat who gives a unique voice to each character. She speaks foreign phrases fluently (German, French and Arabic are throughout the series). I only speak English fluently but you can tell when someone wants to sound as authentic as possible. How do you not look up how to pronounce a word as a voice actor??

This recording comes off as a "sit around a table with a mic to read lines with sound effects". Some parts are sped through, others have background music so loud you cant hear the narrator/voice actor (Turn it down, Justin!!).
Ramses is obviously a woman role playing as a child. She sounds horrible and has an annoying pitch (Same VA is in the Mummy Case as well).
People who have sensitive ears may want to avoid.
Nanette mispronounced several words, several names of the characters and her "sound effects" are just...no. Her intonation are flat mostly and inconsistent when they do happen. She is just not a good fit for this series.
Emerson's VA is Michael Glen and he does a relatively good job over all. He is enjoyable as Professor Emerson.

I will continue to listen because I love this series. I do think Elizabeth Peters/ Ms Mertz would be disappointed in the VA chosen for Amelia. She loved Barbara's take on her series and no one is better, in my opinion.

Sighs....where do I start?
