It sounds so simple: Tell stories from your life, and people will remember your message. But when you get down to crafting one, there's nothing easy about it.

Material for stories surrounds us. Yet few people are skilled at sharing personal anecdotes and even fewer know how to link them to professional goals. Whether you want to stand out in the interview process, add punch to a presentation, or make a compelling case for a new initiative, Let the Story Do the Work shows you how to mine your experience for simple narratives that convey who you are, what you want to achieve, and why others should care.

Packed with enlightening examples, the book explains how to find the perfect hook, structure your story...and deliver it at the right time in the right way. You'll discover how to use stories to:

  • Capture attention
  • Engage your audience
  • Change minds - inspire action
  • Bring facts and data to life
  • Clarify challenging concepts
  • Pitch persuasively
  • Fundraise effectively
  • And more

Never underestimate the power of a great story. Learn to leverage the elements of storytelling - and turn everyday communications into opportunities to connect, gain buy-in, and build lasting relationships.

This book was good. It just was tedious to listen to. I kept zoning out. Not a book to listen to while driving

Hard to stay engaged.

Esther Choy teaches us how to become master communicators by capturing the power of storytelling. She teaches us the five basic plots found within business stories.

A well-crafted and insightful book uses clear language, literary references, and our natural inclination to caste ourselves in the story.

I highly recommend the book to anyone who wants to communicate more effectively in all aspects of their lives.

Really enjoy this book - gave a different perspective into storytelling I didn't consider. Definitely noticed a difference at work.

Best Storytelling Book Thus Far

I would reorder this book if a different narrator were to read the book. This is not a novel and the narrator tried to read it like it was. I realized the actual content was worth listening to so I upped the speed of the reader to 1.25 and I was able to make it to the end. I'm not trying to be hurtful, I'm certain with the right book the narrator would have been fine. I found it a bit ironic that the book states more than a few times to "know your audiance."

A few good take aways

There are some good tips on crafting a story. However, there just wasn't enough relevant examples, specific steps, and "before" and "after" stories after applying the steps.
