Resumen del Editor

The essential skill of creating and maintaining new businesses - the art of the entrepreneur - can be summed up in a single word: managing. In High Output Management, Andrew S. Grove, former chairman and CEO (and employee number three) of Intel, shares his perspective on how to build and run a company. Born of Grove’s experiences at one of America’s leading technology companies, this legendary management book is a Silicon Valley staple, equally appropriate for sales managers, accountants, consultants, and teachers, as well as CEOs and start-up founders. Grove covers techniques for creating highly productive teams, demonstrating methods of motivation that lead to peak performance - throughout, High Output Management is a practical handbook for navigating real-life business scenarios and a powerful management manifesto with the ability to revolutionize the way we work.

High Output Management

This book was amazing! It had great metaphors and analogies that went along with real world examples of managing tips that you can use at your own organization - even in 2022. I will definitely be revisiting this book so I can drill the concepts into my head. FYI, the narrator sounds like a radio show host from the 1960's.

Teach your manager how to help you grow

After almost 4 happy years at a major IT company and working with two great but different managers I’ve come to realize both failed me and the company by not doing their jobs and I failed them and myself by not recognizing that and taking the appropriate actions myself. If you want to accelerate your career, even an individual contributor career, this book provides a much better understanding of what to focus on and what activities to prioritize.

If you’ve read “The Goal” or “Toyota Kata”, Andrew will provide great context. Similarly if you’ve read “The innovator’s dilemma” or “The lean startup” much of this will seem familiar in a greater context. And much more than “Conversations to create star performers”, Andrew focuses on the essence of motivating employees to truly grow rather than con them into working at something that only benefits the employer temporarily and at high cost to employee satisfaction and development.

One of the essential books that a manager should read

I have a list of essentials that every manager should read, like a college curriculum. This book went into my essentials list, as it is so pure, simple, and yet reach that can transform the performance of a manager for good.

Great perspective on management

I’m an aspiring manager and there are definitely very concrete techniques to leverage in my work. Plus, Andrew provides the framework for a manager to take on a success-focused mindset for his/herself and his/her subordinates.
