The stunning new novel from Clare Mackintosh, the international best-selling author of I Let You Go and I See You.

The police say it was suicide.

Anna says it was murder.

They're both wrong.

Last year, Tom and Caroline Johnson chose to end their lives, one seemingly unable to live without the other. Their daughter, Anna, is struggling to come to terms with her parents' deaths, unwilling to accept the verdict of suicide.

Now with a baby herself, Anna feels her mother's absence keenly and is determined to find out what really happened to her parents. But as she digs up the past, someone is trying to stop her.

Sometimes it's safer to let things lie....

On of the better psychological thrillers I have read here lately. The characters are very well developed. There is a bit of intrigue too. Even though I had parts figured out before they were revealed, the story kept my attention.

Very good psychological thriller

Wad confused at times. Didn't understand the hint in the end. Loved the interview at the end.

Good Listen

I'll admit this book has an interesting twist, for gullible old me. Beyond that, I didn't enjoy it. I was frustrated by some of the similarities to Girl on a Train (that were executed far better in that book). My biggest complaint is that I know very little more about the main character at the end of the book than I did at the beginning. She was exceptionally dull.

Interesting twist, but flat characters

The narrator reading this book ruined it for me. She sounds so robotic and is so boring that I found myself zoning out continuously. So unfortunately I returned the book after about 1/4 of the way through... I had little to no idea what was going on. However from what little I remember the story sounded very interesting! So I will buy this one in paper back and read it when I have time.

The story was engaging but definitely frustrating at times. The plausibility of certain situations comes into question at times and took me out of the story. There are twists, but not overly shocking ones in my opinion. All in all, it was a good book.

I Let You Go by Clare Mackintosh is a far superior book. Still...Let Me Lie was worth the credit and entertaining. I will be choosing more books from this author.

Enjoyable

Clare is a wonderful author and really knows her subject there is such reality and she offers us a story that is usually not told ... we expected a different story. I look forward to more of her works. Clare thank you for your delicate handling of domestic violence and mental illness.

Surprise Ending......think again ....

Book-report homework: Clare Mackintosh does an incredible job of combining her multi-dimensional characters’ personalities, behaviors, and inter- and intrapersonal dialogues into a fascinating story that skillfully heightens the suspense as each subplot within unfolds. Additionally, the author nimbly weaves in patterned portrayals of mild to severe psychological disorders, primarily through alternating POVs.
Speaking to friends and family: “This audiobook book is SO awesome! LISTEN TO IT NOW!”

Absolutely Riveting

I enjoyed the story. It was a bit slow in the beginning for me. But once I got into it, I was eager to see what happened. I imagined a few different characters being “the bad guy” as I was reading, but was surprised with someone I hadn’t thought of. The ending got me. I hate when they’re left open ended!

Surprising end

I really like Clare Mackintosh's books. She is knowledgeable because of her previous career and it just makes the story so good. I liked the characters and sometimes it was heartbreaking with what the character Murray's wife went through and how complex mental illness is.

I thought then ending was good - the ex-friend in prison was truly rotten to the core.

Really good listen

I'm not sure how I would of reacted if I was Anna about my parents' "deaths".
