"Even nonfantasy listeners will enjoy hanging out at the intersection of coffeehouse culture and Dungeons & Dragons, and hope that Baldree fails to shake his new writing habit." - The Seattle Times

The much-beloved BookTok sensation, Travis Baldree's
Legends & Lattes, is novel of high fantasy and low stakes.

Come take a load off at Viv's cafe, the first & only coffee shop in Thune. Grand opening!

Worn out after decades of packing steel and raising hell, Viv, the orc barbarian, cashes out of the warrior’s life with one final score. A forgotten legend, a fabled artifact, and an unreasonable amount of hope lead her to the streets of Thune, where she plans to open the first coffee shop the city has ever seen.

However, her dreams of a fresh start filling mugs instead of swinging swords are hardly a sure bet. Old frenemies and Thune’s shady underbelly may just upset her plans. To finally build something that will last, Viv will need some new partners, and a different kind of resolve.

A hot cup of fantasy, slice-of-life with a dollop of romantic froth.

Reseñas de la Crítica

"This is a story about following your dreams, even when they take you away from who you thought you had to be. It's sweet, beautiful and, most of all, kind. I hugely recommend this book."—Seanan McGuire, New York Times bestselling author of Every Heart A Doorway

Legends & Lattes is a uniquely beautiful book. Its cast of endearing characters have no interest at all in killing one another. There is no Great Evil, no bloody battles, and yet the pillars of great fantasy—resilience, fellowship, and a desire to make the world a better place—are all here. It’s wonderfully wholesome, and I hope heralds the rise of a 'slice-of-life' sub-genre in modern fantasy.”—Nicholas Eames, author of Kings of the Wyld

“Take a break from epic battles and saving the world. Legends & Lattes is a low-stakes fantasy that delivers exactly what's advertised: a wholesome, cozy novel that feels like a warm hug. This is my new comfort read.”—Genevieve Gornichec, author of The Witch's Heart

Featured Article: Best of the Year—The 12 Best Fantasy Listens of 2022

Between film, television, literature, and audio—2022 could easily be proclaimed the Year of the Fantasy, much to the delight of fans among us. But when it came to picking the best of the best, the glut of fantastic content also significantly increased the CR (challenge rating). This year’s winner edged ahead of the rest thanks to its atmospheric, suck-you-in (pun intended) audio experience, but every performance on this list transported us.

I find myself coming back to this one over and over again. between the story and amazing narration, this book is like the big comfy hoodie you wear to feel comfy and warm.

I’ve loved Travis Baldree’s narration since discovering the Cradle series, and this book piqued my interest, not knowing he was also an author. I’m so glad I gave this a try, as the story is like a warm hug - or maybe mug (of coffee) - on a cold night.

The stakes are low, the characters are wonderful, and the story is sweet. The narration is great of course, though I’ll admit I somewhat expected the narrator to have written the story so as to give himself some over-the-top characters to voice. Kind of like a narrators vanity project. But that wasn’t the case at all. Not that there weren’t characters with charming voices, but the author “understood the assignment”. I’m incredibly impressed with his talent, and am excited to know he working on a sequel following a different character from this story. Count me in!

Also, writers & publishers, if you’re listening: more low stakes cozy Fantasy books like this please!

I was genuinely surprised at how much I liked this story. Always enjoyed Travis Baldree's narration, but had no idea he could write. Fun story, likeable characters, and (hopefully) a great start to a series?

A cozy comfort read that's going to make your mouth water!

Narrator Travis Baldree debuts as an author with this lovely story featuring an ex-warrior who's ready for a new calling.

This hits the sweet spot for everyday adventure in a high fantasy setting. Perfect for fans of DIY renovation, friendship-centric stories, and, of course, coffee!

New beginnings, fresh coffee, good luck!

So I guess this is my first venture into cozy fantasy of the novel book format. That being said I have read and viewed some manga and manhwa that go that route (examples being some with stationary and desserts shops). I enjoyed the audiobook alongside reading the novel. I enjoyed the character voices that the author portrayed and the overall story as there was enough suspense without fully stressing me out. There was this feeling of experiencing and growing with the character of Viv as she expands the cafe business, along with making friends and enemies along the way. Very interesting juxtpositioning of something modern in a fantasy world. I have a feeling a couple of the characters might pop up again in the upcoming sequel with more growth and details revealed (a certain gnome has to have an antikythera mechanism dial yet to be revealed).

I can't begin to tell you how skeptical I was of this book. It seemed over-hyped and I didn't think it could possibly be THAT good. So I put in a hold for the audiobook at my library.

Not even an hour in, I opened audible and bought it for keeps instead. I returned the library copy. I was enjoying it enough that I wanted audible to give me selections like it, etc.

It's a fun, fantasy listen. The species and items seem to be based on DnD or a similar fantastical universe. So the author has a solid base for building their story and the world it's in. It worked out very well. Is it the best book ever? No. It's short and hearty and worth a listen.

I've loved Travis' vocal work on the Cradle series by Will Wight, and when I saw that he had written and narrated his own story, I jumped on it. What a fantastic listen! Each character is recognizable and has growth. The story is charming and unique: an Orc with a coffee shop? Amazing! The pacing is excellent, and the found family aspect is heart-warming. The whole book had me chuckling and smiling the entire time.

Now, what's the deal with the old gnome...?

A fantastically cozy read!
