Editorial reviews

A very short introduction to former U.S. president John F. Kennedy, narrated in smooth and upbeat tones by actress Leah Vandenburg. Listeners learn about Kennedy's heroic acts in World War II and his rise to the presidency, the important contributions he made during his term, and the story of his untimely end in 1963. Kennedy's historic importance as America's first Catholic president is also emphasized. Gentle instrumental music plays in the background, while Vanenburg's bright tones are likely to appeal to kids. A nice way to introduce young listeners to this pivotal figure.

The 35th President of the US

A great way to spend five minutes, this short audio covers JFK’s military service in the U.S. Navy Reserve during WWII commanding the PT-109, which was hit by a Japanese destroyer, killing two of JFK’s men. The rescue of his remaining men was strenuous, injuring JFK, yet after a month of recovery, he returned to duty and was assigned to command the PT-59. Much more is also covered, the beginning of his political career, his marriage to Jacqueline Bouvier in 1953, his election to president in 1961 and his assassination in 1963. His famous quote, “And so, my fellow Americans: ask not what your country can do for you — ask what you can do for your country.” from his 1961 inaugural address has lived on and is still quoted today.
