Pioneer life is sometimes hard for the family, since they must grow or catch all their own food as they get ready for the cold winter. I loved this book and read it several times as a child. It's just one of those "nice" books. Like Little Women or Anne of Green Gables, it's not exciting, and maybe it's not a "grown up" classic, but the characters and journey of the story are worth reading. I've read Ballet Shoes once or twice as an adult and it definitely holds up. I ended up very involved in theatre through high school and college, so perhaps this book is why, and reading Ballet Shoes over again now makes ...more I loved this book and read it several times as a child. Where does Ballet Shoes rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
Near the top, perfect for a light read on a road trip.
Who was your favorite character and why?
All of the girls, but probably Posy. Something about her.
What does Elizabeth Sastre bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
I just love the reading! It was so expressive and full of life. It only added to the story.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
Yes! And I've done it may times!
Any additional comments?
I've listened to this book so many times, and it's just a fun and light read. Not only does it take you back in time to a rough economic time in England, it brings laughs, joy, and performing arts all into the mix! This is my favorite type of novel and I absolutely adored it. Have listened to this (and the other two books on audiotape) MANY times.

Love the book ,the characters are among my faves audible....do the rest, starting with traveling shoes or applebough!
I had been a little concerned that perhaps the audio version would not live up to the book. I need not worried, the narrator and the producer did full justice to Noel Streatfield's words. This audiobook will become a permanent part of my library.
As a family with 4 girls, we all loved this book. The story was funny and intriguing (we still say, "We vow!) and the performance was outstanding, especially in the way the reader played every part distinctly and believably. The 4 stars for the story is because it took a bit getting into--but it was well worth it.
