With more than one million copies sold, this series of modern classics about the charming Penderwick family from National Book Award winner and New York Times best seller Jeanne Birdsall is perfect for fans of Noel Streatfeild and Edward Eager.

This summer the Penderwick sisters have a wonderful surprise: a holiday on the grounds of a beautiful estate called Arundel. Soon they are busy discovering the summertime magic of Arundel's sprawling gardens, treasure-filled attic, tame rabbits, and the cook who makes the best gingerbread in Massachusetts. But the best discovery of all is Jeffrey Tifton, son of Arundel's owner, who quickly proves to be the perfect companion for their adventures.

The icy-hearted Mrs. Tifton is not as pleased with the Penderwicks as Jeffrey is, though, and warns the new friends to stay out of trouble. Which, of course, they will—won't they? One thing's for sure: it will be a summer the Penderwicks will never forget.

Deliciously nostalgic and quaintly witty, this is a story as breezy and carefree as a summer day.

Well written and performed

This book was a pleasure to listen to. All of my kids (13,11,7,5) enjoyed it. That is saying something since the older three are boys. The story was well written. Endearing characters and enough description to set the scene well. Masterfully performed by Susan Denaker. She had distinct voices for each character. Can’t wait to listen to more!

Very Enjoyable Book

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. I am not a youth (quite on the contrary) but I found it to be entertaining, imaginative, and funny. Susan Denaker did a wonderful job narrating and did the various voices well. She was very easy and pleasant to listen to. I may have discovered this series late but I do plan to continue to the next book.

entertaining!

my children and I enjoyed this together! very entertaining and reminds me of free summer days as a kid. the only reason I have it 4 stars is that it contained exclamations of the Lord's name in vain - I especially don't appreciate that in a children's book.
