A concise and easily understood introduction to Buddhism

I just revisited this book after reading it close to 25 years ago when I first became interested in Buddhism. I again found Sylvia’s way of explaining the dharma and especially the analogies she uses to be extremely enlightening. If you are interested in learning about Buddhism, this book is a perfect place to start.

good content; poor audio quality

I mistook this for Boorstein's later Audible release, Happiness is an Inside Job. While this older audiobook is an engaging, accessible introduction to Buddhism, the older download format (2)(at least my download) made Boorstein sound as if she narrated while undergoing dental work.

Audible, can't you convert this older format? The book is still a worthy a listen.

This is all you need

This book is I think perhaps the best introduction that one could have to the fundamentals of Buddhism. Sylvia’s clarity and compassion make everything simple and accessible. Simply listening already changes how one feels and opens the door to realizing even more. One of my absolute favorites and I cannot recommend it highly enough. Thank you Sylvia Boorstein.

Sums it all up, beautifully.

This is such a wonderful and practical book and still so inspiring. I especially love that Sylvia narrated. I’ve read many meditation and spiritual books about Buddhism and the dharma & many are wonderful but this is truly among the very best. Sylvia gives wonderful anecdotes, practical messages and leave the reader with a joyful and optimistic feeling;not 1 ounce of apprehension. I finished and wanted to continue being me (not another version of me, or me if I was a better meditator etc,,,) and then I wanted to sit for a quick meditation.

Sylvia Boorstein wrote (and delivered) one of the most simple, elegant books on living zen. In a concise but interesting way she tells you how to follow Buddha's teachings and why following them makes your life work.

Relatable and Accessible

Sylvia offers Westerners an entry point in which to explore Buddhism. And I had a few chuckles along the way.
