The drama of the Old Testament comes to life as Judah's most notorious king ascends to the throne in this gripping novel from the award-winning author of Isaiah's Daughter.

At eight years old, Shulle has known only life in a small village with her loving but peculiar father. When Uncle Shebna offers shelter in Jerusalem in exchange for Shulle's help tutoring King Manasseh, Judah's five-year-old co-regent who displays the same peculiarities as her father, she's eager to experience the royal court. But Shulle soon realizes the limits of her father's strict adherence to Yahweh's Law when Uncle Shebna teaches her of the starry hosts and their power.

Convinced Judah must be freed from Yahweh's chains, she begins the subtle swaying of young Manasseh, using her charm and skills on the boy no one else understands. When King Hezekiah dies, twelve-year-old Manasseh is thrust onto Judah's throne, bitter at Yahweh and eager to marry the girl he adores. Assyria's crown prince favors Manasseh and twists his brilliant mind toward cruelty, beginning Shulle's long and harrowing journey to discover the Yahweh she'd never known, guided with loving wisdom by Manasseh's mother: Isaiah's daughter, the heartbroken Hephzibah. Amid Judah's dark days, a desperate remnant emerges, claiming the Lord's promise, "Though we're helpless now, we're never hopeless--because we serve El Shaddai." Shulle is among them, a girl who becomes a queen through Isaiah's legacy.

Both this book and Isaiah’s Daughter created in me a desire to read from scripture the accounts. The reality of a very young king led astray was difficult to process at times, but it makes the redemptive part of this story so much more rich. Finally, I am simply in awe of the thread of judgement, love, and forgiveness that God continued to weave with the prophets through the many seasons of God’s people turning away from him to idolatry.

I loved this story even though it was hard because the reality of King Nasa he was cruel as theasireans were so cruel
The fact that Yahweh turned their hearts against all odds and lack of faith due to despair it was one of the most amazing books I heard.
I also loved the narrators amazing job
I pray Yahweh keeps using the author as He has and blessings to her

I enjoying this book because it helped add a lot of color to the time period and possibilities that led to the wickedness of King Manasseh. I appreciated the authors commentary at the end regarding her additions to the personalities not clearly defined in Scripture (2 Kings 21 and 2 chronicles 33).

Loved it!

Wow! What a fantastic audio book. Kept me wanting more. I couldn’t wait to get back in the car to hear more. Very well written, well researched, and the audio voiceovers are great too. The author puts you right into the mind and heart of each character. I was right in the thick of that ancient culture and feeling each persons pain and joy. This one will stay with me for a long time. I may go back and listen again later. It’s that good, y’all.

Love, Love, Love this book

Although I loved this story, overall, I would’ve preferred that Mesu did not go into so much detail about the occult practices. I don’t think it’s wise to subject my spirit to that, so I fast forward it through much of it.

This is a great way to learn and remember the historical facts. Something I have been asking God for: a narrative of the Old Testament! Not all of it is true, but I can separate the two.

The narrators were all excellent.
