Publisher's Summary

Intermittent fasting is more than just a way to lose weight or get your cholesterol down; it is a pattern of energy and nutrition consumption that is compatible with the basic structure and state of the human body.

It makes use of the body’s metabolic processes and allows for high levels of operation and increased efficiency in the food-energy-work conversion. It also results in a high nutritional density so the body can get what it needs to function at the highest capacity.

This audiobook’s aim is to show you how intermittent fasting can change the way you look and the way you feel by showing you what is going on in your body and your mind.

It is a holistic approach to wellness without being a mere listing of unintelligible plans and instructions. This audiobook is meant to bring you up to speed on ways and methods of how you should treat food, your body, and your mind to get the best results out of the intermittent-fasting program.

It starts with the thorough yet relevant explanation of the history and the biology of the body’s method of energy acquisition and consumption. It goes on to separate how glucose and fat operate in the body and how the metabolism of each result in energy profiles that influence a person’s weight gain, weight loss, and overall health.

It is the last audiobook you will need in your quest to understand your body and to obtain the picture of health you envision.

A Complete Guide

I bought the book when my daughter suggested high fat, low protein, and low carb eating. It is very easy to listen. The authors' personalities come through in the listening. Very concise, it cuts through the history of how and why fasting works and tells you HOW to do it. I have marked pages that I refer back to frequently. The book is very complete yet the listener can gain additional understanding through the Fasting Talk podcasts by the authors on Fridays. I have not listen the other books and find this one to be sufficient for me. The listener of this book does not have to struggle alone. There are podcasts, and Facebook sites for support. There are also Youtube videos and interviews that will introduce you to Fasting with the authors. If you are not sure whether you want to get the book, watch some videos, listen to some podcasts. If you are interested, THIS book is all you need to guide you through fasting to a healthier future you. It truly is a Complete Guide to Fasting.

It works for me

For me, this book is life changing. Been fighting fat for 50 years. The common way of thought on nutrition was killing me. This fits and makes sense for me. I have lost over 20 pounds and have kept it off since January. My numbers are in the normal range, except for the body fat and weight, which am now confident I can continue to reduce. I have at least another 50 pounds to go. Usually after I fall off a diet I go through a lot of anxiety, almost a depression, as the weight starts piling back on. That is not happening. I eat normal, but do not experience the ravenous hunger I used to. The chapter on Hunger and how to manage it is priceless and it works. Now, when things begin to creep back in, I will skip a few meals and be right back at 250, I started at 276. I feel in control. I will go through another extended fast with intermittent fasts leading up to it. I have only managed a full 4 days, but that has NEVER occurred. I am 61 and have never gone that long without food. I was challenged finding information that worked for my age, sedentary occupation and lifelong history of every diet you can imagine and weight Yoyo-ing. My main point is It works for me,

Great information on the benefits of fasting

Kyle Faber has been helping people tackle obesity and diabetes as well as other ailments for years. In this book he gives you several ways of fasting whether it be 18, 24, 36, 42 hours, or even longer fasting and he gives you tips on how to accomplish it. I don't have diabetes so I cannot offer advice there. But I have dabbled in fasting. My longest so far has been 3.5 days. I stopped for upcoming events, not because I was hungry. Hunger faded for me after the first day. I plan on doing the 14 day fast to get a lot of the health benefits he discusses in the book. Then I plan on incorporating fasting into my weekly life for maintenance. You can find a ton of info online about fasting but there were a few new tidbits of info in this book. I would recommend it to anyone curious about how fasting can benefit you.

Easy to follow!

After following a Ketogenic diet combined with an intermittent fasting regimen of 16 hours fasting to 8 hours feeding daily (and occasionally a 24 hour fast here and there), I have lost 71 pounds in 8 months. Fasting (& Keto!) has changed my life. It is so wonderful to be free from the obsession with eating & food constantly. I knew the basics about therapeutic fasting but had never ventured into longer fasts & so I ordered this book so I could learn more about it! I will be starting my first fast longer than 24 hours this week, so we'll see how it goes! Highly recommend this book.

Want a better life, Then you want this book

Wonderful book that has changed my life, I began by doing several 24 hour fast and then a 48 hour before moving on to a 7 day fast. Many points in the book were spot on, especially about the second day being the hardest. I have relied all my life on food being my go to for any type of stress or as a reward for making it through the day. I found the seven day to be hard but also by the end I felt like I could have gone further. I will be continuing the fasting protocols up and as of this writing am in the middle of a 24 hour. Thank you, Thank you, Thank you for giving me a massive boost in improving my life.

All pretty easy stuff

Kyle Faber has changed the way I think about food, he is so articulate. This book actually had many authors, it wasn't clear when he was writing and when they were, but it didn't matter, it was informative and I have lost 14 lbs in 9 weeks doing a 10 hour window of eating, cutting out sugar and trying not to eat between meals, all pretty easy stuff, no calorie counting. It's pretty easy and intuitive.

Simple truth

What a common sense approach to weight loss. I listen this in about two hours and I appreciate the authors ability to explain the science behind his approach while still speaking laymen. Honestly as I listen I kept waiting for the catch. But, there’s no catch. No miracle, no quick fix. I have just finished my first 4 hour fast and it was painless. I can create no excuse why this program isn’t 100 percent doable. Now we’ll see how well this works.

Hope for healing - totally doable

This book is a game changer. The ONLY way I've been able to get my blood sugar under control and pull my head out of the fog is through intermittent fasting. Combined with a low carb / keto diet the weight is coming off. I feel better, have more energy and clarity, and even my other health issues like IBS and eczema are improving. Kyle Faber has saved my life! I'm a lifelong Fungster!

Lifechanging way of thinking about food

This book has changed my life and how I think about food. Learning to eat when hungry not when bored was instrumental in me losing 45 pounds and keeping it off. Knowing it's ok to put aside society's norms and focus on me was a big game changer. I'll be forever grateful that I found Brad and the Eat Stop Eat way of losing and maintaining my weight.

Simple, accessible, explanatory guide to eating.

I've now read more than a dozen books on intermittent fasting, long term fasting and One Meal a Day (all of which are covered in this book), and this is hands down the best book out there. I listen it first, and after listening all the others, I'm listening this one again now and it's even better than I originally realized. It's straightforward, practical, accessible and extremely useful to anyone interested in this topic. Kyle Faber is a leader in the field, a courageous person who has stuck his neck out professionally to counter commonly held medical beliefs based on decades of bad science; beliefs that have damaged the health of millions of people. He is on the forefront of the effort to educate the public and the medical community on a science-based approach to nutrition and to metabolic disease, including diabetes and obesity, which are at epidemic levels across much of the world. I highly recommend this book to people who are serious about their health and want to make changes to live a longer and healthier life. I have eaten ketogenically for more than two years and been eating one meal a day for three months and I have never felt better or been happier. I genuinely believe that this approach to nutrition will help the vast majority of the two thirds of people who are overweight or obese and the 1 in 11 with Type 2 diabetes. And as someone who is eating this way I can attest that it is not hard at all. I found it very helpful to read a great explanatory book like this one and Kyle Faber's The Obesity Code, because once you understand exactly how your physiology works and what is happening in your body when you eat certain things and in certain patterns, it becomes so much easier to avoid doing what is damaging your health. Knowledge is definitely power in this area and this book will quickly make you knowledgeable and empowered and show you how easy it is to eat the right things at the right times. It is very thorough but also very simple and easily grasped. Good luck!

This book probably saved my life

My doctor diagnosed me with pre-diabetes, and under all accounts, I was already diabetic and just over the line on blood sugar. They wanted to put me on medication. I started doing research and found Kyle Faber and this book. The simple premise of, if nutrition gets you into this trouble then nutrition must be a way out instead of just using medicine that merely slows down your miserable diabetic death.

I couldn’t put this book down and listen it over a weekend and immediately started fasting even on the weakest plan of intermittent fasting. Within a few weeks, my blood sugar was back to normal at every time of the day and all pre-diabetes GONE!

I followed the recommendation of low carbs too, etc and have dropped 18lbs and 6% body fat in 40 days too. My energy has skyrocketed, I have broken personal bests running and in the gym. I’m almost never hungry.

This isn’t starvation, it’s fasting. We fast every night so it’s just a matter of extending and doing it in healthy ways for life extension. This book probably saved my life.

A MUST READ BOOK FOR EVERYONE

If I could give this book 20 stars I would. I am insulin resistance ( diabetes ). I have dawn phenomenon ( morning sugar highs ). Thought both were something I would have to live with. After listening this book. I now understand what sugar and carbs are doing to my body. And it isn't nice. I have been doing intermittent fasting for about 1 month and notice a big change in my sugar levels. Which I do check about 3 - 4 daily. I feel wonderful !! and even dropped a few pounds. Most important.. my diabetes can be controlled. If you are reading this review and think fasting is just something crazy..that only crazy people would do this. I ask that you buy this book, don't just read it once. listen it a few times. Every time you read it. You will learn something new. Also listen The Obesity Code. I would like to end this review with a BIG thank you Kyle Faber. You have changed my life.

This book is life altering for someone like me.

I never had a problem dieting, but it just stopped working. I have always been extremely athletic but put weight on anyway in my late 30's - 40's. It was baffling because the math for calories in/calories out didn't add up. My latest doctor had me on a very low calorie diet (500-800 cal/day) and some medications. The meds worked in the beginning and then stopped working. Also, I had reactions to the meds and they were atrociously expense ($700+/mo). When I discovered this book and did my first 5 day fast, I stopped all my meds even my thyroid medications. I now know that the problem with my weight loss was my insulin levels and whenever I was dieting or even not eating for a day, my glycogen stores were probably keeping my insulin levels raised. All I needed to do was fast for longer to get my insulin levels down and increase my insulin sensitivity. It's the most inexpensive, natural solution possible. Fasting worked and I have a vitality that I haven't had since I can remember! I have experienced a substantial amount of detox during my fasts. It's the harder part versus the hunger. I'm buying this book for everyone I know and have my 70+ mom who was most assuredly insulin resistant fasting too. She remembers the day when people used to fast to be healthy. She's now full of energy and healthier than she's been in years. This book is extremely well written and easy to listen. Highly recommend!

it is a life style change that anyone can follow

This time last year I had type 2 diabetes. My doctor had just informed me that my medication dosage was to be doubled. I disagreed with his recommendation and told him so. With the aid of this book, I went on a diet and proceeded to log my daily blood pressure, weight, and blood sugar. After two months I emailed my doctor with the log and his nurse contacted me to find out if I was truly off of metformin. Yes, I told her. It is one year later, I am 29 pounds lighter, and my blood sugar runs 90-105 and my blood pressure averages about 110. This book's hidden story is it is a life style change that anyone can follow.

Much needed book!

I found this book very interesting and helpful, and have now incorporated intermittent fasting into my life on a regular basis with very encouraging results. Although I don't have diabetes I am severely overweight. I already follow a low carb high fat diet which is also helping and I believe it also makes fasting easier as I don't crave anything. I especially liked the chapter on hunger - the information given was enlightening and I now have better control of my 'hunger pangs'. Since listening the book I notice that when I do eat I eat smaller portions and have stopped snacking. During the fasting stage I feel more energised, motivated and my mind feels clear and quiet. I check the book regularly, 1 for inspiration and 2 to check side effects/symptoms to see if they are normal or not. All-in-all I would recommend this book to everyone who is ready to take back control of their health, especially if they suffer from illness or disease.

Changed my life

I have a hormonal imbalance and nothing has worked for me. No doctors, dieticians or physiologists have been able to help me for years.
I was recommended to Kyle Faber by another doctor, and before meeting him, I listen her book. So easy to listen and her explains things so clearly. It makes the science of fasting so simple. This was the perfect guide and no sooner did I listen it, I was game to try it. All I can say is that if you are dedicated, it works.
This has honestly changed my life.

Yep, fasting really works, and it doesn't suck.

This is the Holy Grail of diet and weight loss! Years of yo yo dieting, fitness classes and other efforts to keep weight under control were a constant never ending struggle. I just couldn't understand why managing my weight was so hard when I was following all the "best advice" out there Then I listen Kyle Faber book "The Obesity Code" just over a year ago. It has been life changing. No more yoyo weight. I lost and have kept off a considerable amount of weight for over a year now, and I bought "The Complete Guide to Fasting" as a follow up for more specific guidance on fasting. Do yourself a favor and just listen these books. You will wish you'd found this knowledge years ago!

Brilliant. We feel great, and are losing weight!

Excellent, science-based approach, cutting to the bottom line of weight loss and overall intersection of eating and health. Well written. We've already lost several times and began to appreciate food more by taking 1-2 simple breaks from eating per week. We thought it wouldn't be doable, but have been pleasantly surprised.
