Publisher's Summary

Theo MacLeod wasn't supposed to be the one.

Tall, dark and handsome suits me just fine, but the cocky grin, know-it-all attitude, and mammoth ego? No thanks. I only hired him so I wouldn't have to sit at the singles table again. It was just pretend.

He wasn't supposed to kiss me. My heart wasn't supposed to pound. We weren't supposed to spend the night together - the hottest night of my life. One night turns into a snowed-in weekend away, and even the blizzard of the century can't cool the fire between us. I can't get enough - of his smile, of his body, of the way he makes me feel.

We're nothing alike. He's a daredevil, and I'm a nervous Nellie. He's a drifter, and I want to put down roots. He's an opportunist with a checkered past, and I'm a Girl Scout volunteer.

But none of it matters when I'm in his arms.

I know he's made mistakes. I know his wounds are deep, and he doesn't trust easily. I know he doesn't believe he could ever be enough to make me happy, but he could. All he has to do is stay.

Stop watching life happen and jump in!

This book was great. There were ups and downs and a TON of self doubt (sometimes too much for my taste) but love bought it all together in the end. There were so really funny parts but I loved the epilog the best! It was cute and funny and tearful.

Claire was a bit of a self doubters without ever having put herself out there in the world. She was afraid of planes (and always wanted to travel) she was afraid to put her artwork out in the world for people to buy (but was an amazing artist). She was afraid of a lot but mostly the unknown. Her friends and family knew how loving and caring she was but she couldn't seem to make things work with a man for too long...which is why she was dateless for yet another wedding. Dreading the "weirdo" singles tables she went online to hire a date... Theo.

Theo was the polar opposite of Claire. he was daring, adventurous , a people person, he traveled the world , and was charming and could see right through her. On their first meeting he sized her up and told her exactly the kind of person she was. She was the kind of person that was looking at life instead of living life. feel on the other hand had Hang-Ups of his own. He was adventurous and a nomad for reason. Could Claire bring him to stop running?

Weak heroine

I’ve listened to this series and it was okay. The story felt the same and the heroine was just too whinny and weak. She was clingy when he wanted to break off the relationship. I liked the writing but not the story. The narrators definitely amp up the story but not enough for four stars.

Started iffy, but ended up really liking it!

First, I listened to the audio and the narrators did a great job and I’d recommend it.

Sweet story with a hero who isn’t perfect and makes mistakes sometimes. Both main characters have some issues with overcoming what scares them. She’s used to be the plain Jane type, and is scared to take that jump to show what she really wants; she’s too nice. He has abandonment issues, so he runs whenever emotions become involved. This may be a bit spoiler-ish, but not too bad. I read a review that said he leaves 3 times, but really they weren’t fully in a relationship for the first 2 times and it was only a couple days into the whole no strings thing. For someone that has issues with strings, they both fell hard and fast. I loved that there wasn’t any ow/om drama, and just dealt with Claire and Theo needing to growth within themselves. I enjoyed the story and at first I didn’t care for how they meet, but the story went a nice way after the first initial premise. Both characters grew and learned. This is the first Melanie Harlow book I’ve read and I’m looking forward to reading more from her.

WE ALL WANT THE FAIRYTALE

I love this author! Melanie Harlow will forever be an insta-purchase/download/listen. Her books are full of heart, hilarious and chock full of sizzling sex, just perfect as far as I'm concerned. IF YOU WERE MINE is a story about redemption, acceptance and finding courage that you never knew you had. This is the perfect quickie romance novel to lose yourself in over a long weekend.

A Beautiful Second Chance Romance ~ All the Feels

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Absolutely!!! This book was beautiful. The characters were so likeable and honest!
The story is amazing and BOTH narrators are so GREAT!!!

What did you like best about this story?

I loved the Plot. This is a story of two people who are complete opposites in every way but find so much comfort in each other. Theo is such a tortured soul and the way Claire loved him unconditionally was so beautiful.
The epilogue is EPIC!!!

Have you listened to any of Renee Givens and Rob Howard ’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

Rob Howard and Renee Givens are now two of my favorite narrators! They tell a story so powerfully that you get sucked in and don't want it to end! Their voices are so clear and understandable. Their performance is absolutely amazing! They completely nailed it!!

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

I actually cried. I can't tell you when because it will spoil the story but to feel the pain in their voices, it gave me goose bumps and brought tears to my eyes. Breathtaking!!!

Any additional comments?

I wish I would've found Melanie Harlow, Rob Howard, and Renee Givens so much sooner. Melanie writes beautiful stories that give you all the feels and the narration is one of the best I've ever heard.
Truly loved this story!!!

vaguely annoying

the back and forth, the tension was juvenile. I get trauma, usually people who are traumatized don't see their actions outright in the moment or even after reflection. it felt more like premeditated, manipulative, abusive bs. seriously, who wants a man who has to fight so hard to stay? ugh the ending made my stomach turn. I have trust issues. he broke trust 3x. she was like, oh OK like that's normal and ok. my experience with this book was not at all like the many favorable reviews of this book.

Great story line !

I loved absolutely everything about the story ! The only thing that killed it for me was Theos narrator . His voice didn’t match what I thought he would sound like . But don’t let that stop you from reading/listening to this book ! It’s hot and fun ! Absolutely loved it .

Really Enjoyed!

I usually prefer historical romances, but sometimes check out contemporary stories. I enjoyed this one, although I did fast forward past some of the love scenes. The narrators were excellent. I loved the characters as well as the struggles tat some of them had to overcome. The primary female character was such a kind and endearing person. The primary male character had to overcome deep a seated demons from his childhood, but was receptive to overcoming those insecurities for the sake of recognizing and accepting love. I'm willing to check out other books written by Melanie Harlow. I will also look for Audible narrated by Rob Howard and Renee Givens. Meanwhile, I do recommend this book.
