Publisher's summary

Harry Browne believed that a person’s happiness is the highest goal he/she can achieve in life. Freedom comes from living your life as you see fit. Happiness and freedom are attainable even if others remain unfree, and it’s never too late to change your life.

"If you’re not free now, it might be because you’ve been preoccupied with people or institutions that have restrained your freedom. I don’t expect you to stop worrying about them, merely because I suggest that you do. I do hope to show you, though, that those people and institutions are relatively powerless to stop you - once you decide how you will achieve your freedom. There are things you can do to be free, and if you turn your attention to those things, no one will stand in your way. But when you become preoccupied with those who are blocking you, you overlook the many alternatives you could use to bypass them. The freedom you seek is already available to you, but it has gone unnoticed.”

This book identifies life’s traps - unconscious thinking and habits that prevent people from being free - and explains in a language even a young person can understand how to escape these traps. It helps you navigate through life while being true to your beliefs while obtaining self-reliance, peace, freedom, prosperity, and happiness.

Many who have read or listened to this book believe it’s invaluable and should be required for every young person, so they can learn how to be free before others start to rule their life. Some believe it should be a required course in every high school, college, and university. Others believe every adult should try it. Still others claim it’s a must for all who seek freedom.

This audiobook is educational and motivational, and even if you disagree with Browne’s philosophy, his logical and consistent thinking can lead you to inner discovery and profound perspectives. How I Found Freedom in an Unfree World is a book for personal liberty - one that can put you on a path to a freer and happier life.

Good info but a bit antiquated

A lot of good onfo to take away but a bit antiquated since it was originally written in the 70's and last updated in the 90's. Still, a LOT of great mindset information.

A book that makes you think

Harry doesn't give a prescription on how to live, like many people in the self-help space tend to.
Harry shares what's worked for him, and how to consider the various possibilities and probabilities that exist and choose what you actually want and take ownership of your life and choices.

Some of the choices that Harry has made may seem 'extreme', but as he says towards the end of the book, those are his choices, and you need to make your own, knowing the consequences and if you're willing to face those.

All in all, a thought provoking book.

Essentially primer for finding your way in this world

Harry was a truly great man. (I recommend you find his essay published 9/11/2001 titled "when will we ever learn?")

This book could have been approximately 25% shorter and thereby more potent, but many books are that way.

When we seek greater strength, wisdom and freedom, we are pushing against human nature, aka, EGO.

Harry does a great job showing how many ways we can be conditioned and entrapped to our detriment, and how possible it is to greatly free ourselves for self-imposed limitations or those foisted on us by others which can often be easily overcome.

Libertarian Bible

Browne explains how we should all mind our business, live successful lives, and how that will improve the world.

Potentially life-changing!

Narrator was great. I read the book once before and I enjoyed listening to it very much. This book challenges you to think in ways that we don't often consider. A truly open mind is required. If you want to be free, you will definitely benefit from listening to and considering the information provided here. Dare to be free!

5 stars!

This book offers a lot of useful, clear and sensible perspectives. Its thorough food for thought that can be easily applied to your own life.

Getting lost in the daily grind and accepting general displeasure as a given law of nature is all too common and familiar to too many. And the ideas in this book can serve as a valuable wake up call to anyone wishing for a better, more fulfilling life.

Trully a breath of fresh air.
